D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Selectable Dual Band Draft 802.11n Gaming Router

Nothing ruins a frag-fest faster than lag. GameFuel allows you to customize your network settings to prioritize game traffic

You can never have too much information. That's why we've included a Network Activity Display to show you what's going on with your router.

Playing by yourself can be fun, but getting online and fragging others is way better.

Router also has the power of dualband (2.4 or 5GHz) wireless signals to get your game on in the wireless band of your choice.

Push the limits of networking technology and experience the evolution of gigabit speed.

This review is from: D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Selectable Dual Band Draft 802.11n Gaming RouterThe following will likely save you a couple of hours of research...The DIR-655 is single-band (2.4GHz).The DGL-4500 is dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), however it only uses one band at a time. You choose which band, manually, in the configuration. It doesn't choose the best band in real-time, or anything like that. The DIR-855 is dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and uses both bands at the same time....

This review is from: D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Selectable Dual Band Draft 802.11n Gaming RouterI bought this router almost immediately after it came out and have had it running for about 90 days at the time of this writing. I have it hooked up wirelessly (G) to my Xbox 360 for Xbox live, wirelessly (N) with my MacBook Pro, use it over gigabit ethernet with two other PCs in my house, and have it hooked up to an HP all in one over ethernet. It has worked without problem with all of these devices. I set it up to use mixed G and N modes and I am seeing very good speeds with the Xbox (about 52 Mbps) and the Macbook Pro (about 117 Mbps). I can easily see about 8 neighbors networks and have multiple cordless phones in the house, so with this router running in mixed G / N mode I think that these speeds are perfectly acceptable.I have no longer noticed any slowdowns when my wife decides to surf the internet while I'm playing Xbox Live. It seems as though the router's automatic "Gamefuel" QoS technology is correctly prioritizing the Xbox traffic over my wife's internet surfing. I didn't have to set up anything special. I just let the router do automatic configuration of the Xbox via UPNP (no manual port forwarding, etc).Configuration-wise it is really pretty simple. I had it up and running pretty quickly. However, I would strongly recommend that the first thing you do with this router is go to the D-Link web site and get the latest firmware before doing any configuration (assuming the firmware is out of date). Nitpicks: - If you upgrade the firmware, you have to manually export the router configuration to file, upload the new firmware, and then import the saved configuration after the firmware update. Otherwise, you'll lose your settings. It works fine, but is a little annoying since my Linksys used to save setting automatically for firmware upgrades. -The web based configuration interface is definitely functional, but it looks rather out of date. - A number of the settings changes require a total reboot of the router and the reboot is definitely slower than it has been on some other routers I've owned. - The router is dual band, but not simultaneously dual band. You have to choose which band you want to use.Bottom line: - I'm happy. I'd buy it again. It works fine with a Mac, a Windows box, a network All-In-One printer, and my Xbox. WARNING: - DO NOT UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE ABOVE version 1.15. There are many known issues with firmware newer than this....

This review is from: D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Selectable Dual Band Draft 802.11n Gaming RouterThis router has solved all my home networking woes and I've had a lot of them. Granted, it's fairly complicated for a home network in that there are many devices connected both wired and wirelessly from various macs and PCs, home theater receiver, music server, network printers, network storage drives, game consoles (ps3, xbox, wii), etc. In the past I've used a combination of various routers to make things work properly. From different versions of Apple airport (express, extreme, extreme "N") to various Belkin and Linkysys models, even the supposedly foolproof WRT54G model. The problem with the Apple airport models has been their inability to allow open NAT for Xbox Live gaming, not to mention the playstation network. I love Airport networks and their integration with OS X and all its cool file/music/drive/printer sharing and networking features but I've always had to combine an extra router to handle the non-Apple side of things. The D-Link DGL-4500 is the first router I've had that plays nice with everything on the network. It just works. It works with Apple-based networks, it provides Open NAT for Xbox Live, it works with PS3 (with some minor tweaks), and it works with just about any challenge I throw at it. Music and video streaming, latency-sensitive online gaming, you n...

Indestructible Dog Toy - holy roller, ball

Our dog is a power chewer. She's medium sized with big dog chewpower!

She loves this ball - we have the blue one. It is perfect for making her really work to get to her Stella and Chewy's freeze dried steaks. We break them in half, stretch open one of the openings and put the treats inside. She has a ball rolling, chasing and bouncing this thing around. Keeps her interested and active for about 15 minutes as she figures a way to get to the treats inside. She loves a good puzzle!

While she does stand on this collapsible ball, and chews on it, she has not damaged it- and that's a relief, since she IS a power chewer. JW Pet Company Hol-ee Roller Dog Toy, 5-Inches (Colors Vary)

Unless you plan on supervising your dog 100% of the time when they play with this toy be careful. My terrier ripped through part of it got an obstructed intestine, stopped eating and drinking and had to go into emergency surgery yesterday. So $1600 later she is recovering. Hopefully she makes a full recovery. Just trying to prevent someone else from going through the same stuff I went through.

We have a 9 month old border collie, only about 40 pounds. He is NOT a big chewer. I gave him this ball last night; he didn't appear to like it much at first. It has a very strong rubber odor. I watched him closely and he finally picked up the ball after over an hour, and finally seemed to like it when he saw how easy it was to pick up. In less than 10 minutes there were 3 tears in the ball. All he did was run around, throw it up in the air, and bounce it a few times, and it was broken. NO CHEWING. I felt like I really threw my money away on this one.

My dog is a mix, border collie, golden retriever, maybe german shepherd. Within 10 minutes, he had this toy torn apart. Other rubber toys are still going strong but not this one. If your dog is ANY type of chewer, not just a hard chewer, this is not the toy for you UNLESS you are going to supervise play time with it the ENTIRE time.

With 2 dachshunds ruling our home and many canine houseguests (more dachshunds, shelties, beagles, Lab/Shepard mixes, a Newfoundland, Rottweiler, etc.), these toys have been loved and chewed on by all who enter our home on four paws. We have had several Holee Rollers and all but three have gone home with our canine houseguests because they fall in love with them too.

Only one of them, after 6+ years is starting to show some wear and tear but this may be caused by our dachsies playing tug with it between the two of them. These are made out of the the only type of rubber (100% natural rubber) that our dogs can't destroy in minutes as they will tear off the covers of tennis balls and chew solid man-made rubber toys into bits.

Because the Holee Rollers are bouncy and flexible, they won't make a loud noise if they hit a wall/cabinet or cause damage the way a harder ball (i.e. tennis ball, solid rubber) might. It's flexible and can be squashed down so the dog can more easily grab and hold on to it when playing a fast round of fetch. If you have a dog that loves to play fetch but destroys toys, try one of these. These are great for outdoor use and fly quite a distance with a fair throw.

Tip: when you give it to your dog for the first time, immediately play fetch or tug with it rather than just drop it in front of them so they know what to do with it from the start.

My chow/lab mix loves this toy. It's great because you can throw it and the ball will bounce and roll, or you can play tug-o-war with it. Both you and your dog have an easy way to grip it. She doesn't have as great a time playing with it by herself as she would a toy with a squeaker, but she will put it between her paws and tug on it for a few minutes. My dog and I have played with this toy for a few months now and I haven't seen any signs of wear on it. For any other toy, she would have chewed it to pieces in about 5 minutes.

My dogs (standard poodles) LOVE this ball. They play fetch and tug-o-war with it. It's a really good product, but my dogs are very aggressive with it when they play tug-o-war with each other. It is breaking apart after only a few weeks of play. It is not a problem with the product itself - it is because my dogs are so rough when playing with the ball. I got the 5-inch size. I might try the larger size to see if it is a little more sturdy.

I have had this toy for my two boxers for at least 4 years. EXACT SAME TOY, and still in great shape. They tug and chew on it all the time, and it has been one of very few toys to hold up. They prefer this toy best when I purchase those little tennis balls that squeek (they fit in the palm of your hand), and I have to stretch one of the openings and shove the tennis ball inside. They have never been able to get the tennis ball out, but they love, love, love trying. They do manage to tear the tennis ball inside up, and I just replace that.

As with any toy, keep an eye on them till your sure its one that will hold up against your dogs intellect and persistence, but i HIGHLY recommend this for tough chewers and tuggers. - Ball - Dog Puzzle - Chew Toy - Holy Roller'

This review is from: Chef\'s Choice M4623 Diamond Hone 3-Stage Manual Sharpener for Euro-American/Santoku/Serrated KnivesI have had a similar product for years, but decided our knives have not been sharp enough lately, so it was time to replace it. This new one is fantastic. I am a serious cook, and my many knives are well loved and utilized. This sharpens them all with ease and excellence. It actually works better than my electric Chef's Choice sharpener, although that is also an older model. Easy to use and store, there is no excuse for a dull knife now that I own this model. My husband and I both love it....

This review is from: Chef\'s Choice M4623 Diamond Hone 3-Stage Manual Sharpener for Euro-American/Santoku/Serrated KnivesThe diamond hones on this sharpener work quickly and the sharpener is easy to use. Assuming the diamonds will last a long time it is a great sharpener for the price. Two or three swipes through each stage (you only use 2 of the 3) and the blade very sharp....

This review is from: Chef\'s Choice M4623 Diamond Hone 3-Stage Manual Sharpener for Euro-American/Santoku/Serrated KnivesI had the Chef's Choice electric model of this knife sharpener and returned it. I thought it was brutal to my good knives. I love this one. It treats my knives more gently and still puts a fine edge on them. It takes a little longer but the results are just as good. 20 back and forth strokes and my knives are ready for finishing. I feel I'm not grinding up my knives but just putting a good edge on them....
