As mentioned on the discussion forum for the company, we couldn't get the unit to give directions (or re-plan route) right at first. We think the sync with the TomTom site is what got it working. Excellent value - I'd buy this product again in a heartbeat....

Magellan's up-dates cost as much as this TomTom cost me and I refuse to pay it. However, the voice does not give the street names as advertised; you must look at the device to see the street names. I also cannot get it to stick to my dashboard and end up with it in my lap. Although the maps seem accurate, I find it a hazard to have to keep it in my lap and lift it up to see the street names. I am returning mine....
This review is from: TomTom XL 335 4.3-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorI have been testing the tom tom locally and it doesn't know the shortest routes. One place I go regularly is just over 27 miles, the tomtom has two possible routes, one 34.8 miles and the other is also about 27 miles but very indirect and confusing. It's not that the maps are not current, once It is clear to the tomtom that I am going another route it has readjusted to the route I am taking. That won't help when I am in an unfamiliar are though.The tomtom has many voices but the only one in each dialect speaks street names. The Enlish US voice is female. The male voice carries better but doesn't speak street names. I suppose I could pay to down load anothe voice.It won't stick to my window. The thing that is suppose to stick to the dashboard doesn't stick to the dashboard and the tomtom doesn't stick to that thing. I end up using it on my seat.All that said. I am not returning it because at times it keeps me from making wrong turns and has straightened my out when I get turned around. Also, this is my first gps navigator and I don't know if any of them would be any better....
