This review is from: Logitech Quickcam IM Plus E3500 Webcam with Mic and Bonus HeadsetI purchased the QuickCam for use with my older Sony Vaio running Ubuntu OS as a help post said it will work straight out of the box and I wanted to use it for Skype. It did work straight out of the box, the headset allows me to talk and the video works well. Unfortunately since the actual software that came with it won't run on this OS so far I'm limited to using it with Skype. But that's ultimately why I bought it so I'm pleased with my purchase.
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam IM Plus E3500 Webcam with Mic and Bonus HeadsetI bought this camera thinking that it was just for a while to see if I really needed to spend in a more expensive one. The answer is: NO. This webcam is just what I needed. It's very inexpensive and the video quality is REALLY good, you can't tell it's a cheap webcam. The software provided is nice as well and very easy to use and to configure. It has this "RightLight" technology that dramatically improves the light in the image, it works great in very low light environments. The webcam has an incorporated microphone (like most webcams) and since it's USB, you don't need to spend hours trying to configure the sound settings and all that; just plug the camera and it automatically puts the incorporated microphone as the default device. The sound quality is great, you don't have to approach the camera to speak, it receives the sound just perfect. Automatic volume adjustment and echo cancellation are provided by the program used (Skype, Google Talk, etc.).The camera is made with good quality materials. Even the focus wheel seems to be sturdy. The USB cable is thick and long enough to be plugged wherever you need it. Also it can be easily mounted over any display, wether it is a CRT, LCD, a laptop or just on your desk.I'm very happy with my purchase. I DEFINITIVELY recommend this product.
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam IM Plus E3500 Webcam with Mic and Bonus Headset4 stars for the Webcam, 0 stars for the software. The software installer found a 48mb update. This was an extremely long download, longer than 48mb would usually take. When that was completed, the installer suggested that a program called "VID" be also installed. I got the impression that VID is Logitech's competitor to Skype. Accepting VID resulted in another extremely long download.Once the downloads were completed, the installer began the actual installation which was also very slow. It appeared to hang with the progress bar not moving for many minutes so I aborted it.Redoing the installation, the 48mb slow download was repeated. Decided not to include "vid" this time. Again installation was very slow and eventually appeared to hang again. This time I waited it out and eventually it did complete.I like the webcam and have purchased a second one for another computer. I did not install the software for the second one and it works fine (at least with Skype). I can't see that the software does anything useful. The bonus headset/mike seem to work OK but don't seem that comfortable. I prefer using the speakers and a mike on a stand.
