Only the Cuisinart cordless kettle has the same arrangement and it is way more money. Most others have side handles which makes it hard for those with carpal tunnel or arthritis to deal with when filled. Boils quickly, especially if you fill it with a few cups of water for coffee/tea/etc. Although a tad noisy (all stainless kettles are), the auto shutoff is nice feature. The lit side switch pokes out and is a little curious. Given that decent carafes cost this much and more makes this a great addition to the kitchen....

(I am a big tea drinker) When it finally died, I was going to buy another Cuisinart. I didn't realize how expensive the Cuisinart was, even on Amazon! I finally settled on this Maxi-Matic and I have not been disappointed. It has a large capacity, heats up fast, and I love the see through window so you can tell how much water is in the pot without opening it. Other reviewers have brought up the following points: the outside gets hot, it is noisy, and the turn on switch seems flimsy. Well, all stainless steel pots get hot, and it isn't any noisier than the Cuisinart. I kind of agree with the flimsy turn on switch, but since I don't abuse my appliances, turning it on with a soft touch is not a problem for me. I can see this switch breaking off if you are the kind of person who uses a hard hand to flip the switch.2/19/11 I'd like to update my original comment about the tea kettle. After about a month of owning the kettle, I noticed some flakes coming out of the spout. There is a metal mesh screen on the inside of the spout which has a round plastic ring which keeps it snapped in place. When I took out this mesh screen, I could see that it was severely rusted with sections missing, hence the flakes coming out of the spout. I emailed the company and a customer service representative named Patricia Elizalde responded. Unfortunately, even though she and I corresponded for several emails (and months) and she stated that she would send me a new screen, she never did. I figured I would try one more email last month and she never even responded to me. Bottom line, if this is indicative of how they respond to their customers, I will never buy one of their products again. Buy the Cuisinart, it may be more expensive, but it has a 3 year warranty and they have excellent customer service. By the way, the kettle still heats up without the screen inside, but the auto shut off does not work with the screen removed....

I have had 2 others that were great, but this one is excellent. Love that the pot is seperate from the heating base. Great value for the money. Really well built. Cleans up with ease....
