The design is poor. The lid traps the steam inside during the cooking process and results in tough, rubbery, styrofoam-textured corn. Plus, the popped corn had a weird taste that is indescribable.We are loyal Cuisinart customers and have used the same model coffee maker for over 10 years. When one wears out, we quickly purchase another of the same. We were very shocked that Cuisinart developed such an under-performing product. And, as popcorn lovers, our disappointment was huge....

Unfortunately, I do not recommend this popper.Pros:1.Removable/dishwashable cooking plate and cover. - It is great to be able to wash all of the cooking surfaces in the dishwasher.2. Non-stick coasting seems better than most.Cons:1. No steam vent holes! - Popcorn loses its crunch and is chewy.2. Tall and narrow design- Good for storage. Bad for popping corn. Popped corn gets stacked on the top of the unpopped corn however the popper gets a bit bogged down with the taller stack of corn weighing on the stirring rod.3. Non-stick coating does eventually scratch.4. Thermal cutoff switch seems to always activate after a batch or two requiring a delay and cool down before popping another batch.Summary:The Stir Crazy makes better popcorn (but the non-stick coating wears off fairly quickly). I would not recommend purchasing the Cuisinart popper. Take a peek at the microwave popcorn popping bowls. I have been using them exclusively now and they work great!...

After we received this popcorn maker for Christmas, we regret our decision. This popper works more than satisfactorily, popping up a batch of popcorn in two minutes with nary an old maid. The popcorn comes out fairly fluffy and just oily enough to be satisfying. (The instructions specify two teaspoons of oil per six cups of popped corn.) So far, we've had best results using Orville Reddenbacher popcorn and peanut oil. We tried some fancy gourmet popcorn with disappointing results, volume-wise.The thing is easy to clean--the pertinent parts can be put in the dishwasher. My one complaint is that the popcorn comes out ever so slightly soggy, and during popping steam condenses on the sides of the clear plastic unit which is supposed to be flipped for use as a serving bowl. I do wonder why Cuisinart didn't put a little close-able vent on the top/bottom of the bowl--a vent that would allow some steam to escape during popping, but could be shut so that butter and salt wouldn't spill out when the bowl is flipped for serving the popcorn. If the popper had come with such a vent, I would've given this item five stars....
