This review is from: 500 Mediterranean Dishes (500 Cooking Series (Sellers)) (500 Cooking (Sellers)) [Hardcover]500 Mediterranean Dishes (500 Cooking Series (Sellers)) (500 Cooking (Sellers))I ordered 2 of the 500-Cooking Series. This is not the fault of the Seller, but these are very small books, little square books, and can be hard to read. The info is all crammed in and is organized in a confusing manner. There is one main dish then a ton of variations, which could be good, but just isn't. There is no clear division between say, desserts and meats. And the main course recipes are far fewer than all the other dishes. I was disappointed....

This review is from: 500 Mediterranean Dishes (500 Cooking Series (Sellers)) (500 Cooking (Sellers)) [Hardcover]This chunky half book is no slouch. If the reader is unfamiliar with Mediterranean food, he or she will be encouraged to try some of these recipes at the first opportunity. The Lebanese red lentil soup or the variation gazpacho are amazingly simple dishes which anyone can try with ease. The foods of the region are full of flavor with simple spices such as onion, cumin, fresh herbs such as cilantro and fennel. There are easy recipes, with full color photos of the food in this cookbook. For example, the baked stuffed baby squid on a bed of fennel is made with some unfamiliar ingredients (chorizo) and some familiar ingredients (fennel bulbs, feta or goat cheese), but combined it makes an amazing dish for the family or for two to try. Each recipe is described in easy to read language, told what it is traditionally served with and offers variations on the pages following the recipe. The foods typical of this region are good for your body choices, with little red meat, high in vegetables, fruits and whole grains, and are promoting a healthy diet all around. It makes the point that there is no one Mediterranean diet, since the region is made up of 21 countries all with their own unique take on traditional and standard foods special to that particular region. The book is small enough to fit into a bag to read at the doctor's office or to take with you to the beach house for vacation. I would highly recommend getting this book to spice up your weekly family menus or just to try something different and experience a culture from another region....

This review is from: 500 Mediterranean Dishes (500 Cooking Series (Sellers)) (500 Cooking (Sellers)) [Hardcover]Like the other books in the collection, the strength of this series is the variations given for each recipe. Mediterranean cookery has long been hailed as the healthy choice, a concept we would all do well to follow. This book uses typical Mediterranean ingredients to create dips, soups, salads, pasta, fish and more. It s beautifully photographed and the recipes are easy to follow. This is a wonderful introduction to Mediterranean cooking. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website....
