This review is from: Panasonic Lumix DMC-F2S 10.1MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Silver)I can't believe people leave poor ratings for a product if the retailer mis-advertises it.I own the ZS-7 (its highly upmarket cousin), but it is too good a camera to carry back and forth from work every day. So I got this as a workhorse camera when it went for sale at what I thought was a ridiculous price. I did not have high expectations for such an inexpensive camera. Yeah - its inexpensive all right - but not cheap in any way.Pros - And this is what really surprised me. 1) This camera takes very very good pics. Even in low light it takes good pics. In low light, its better than my ZS-7. Believe me! Its not too grainy, the lens is sharp, focus is perfect, exposure is top notch and colors are great. So it fulfills the #1 criteria for a camera - take good pics! Note - It DOES NOT have a Leica branded lens, but don't let that bother you - much of this branding is marketing gimmickry. Its Lumix (panasonic) lens is better than what you find in most point/shoots.2) Its size and shape are perfect. Square at the bottom so it can stand on the table (unlike the silly Canon SD940 that I also own). It easily fits into the pocket - and leaves room for lots of other stuff. But not so small to make handling inconvenient (like the canon SD series).3) The display at the back is very unlike an inexpensive point and shoot. It is sharp - sharp - sharp at 230K pixels and quite bright. The display is a bit inset - so its protected from scratches (ulike canon SD940).4) The body is plastic - but don't let that bother you. Makes it lightweight and its very well put together. No plasticky molding lines anywhere.5) Battery seems to last a while - much longer than the ZS7. Alas the battery is not the same as used on the ZS-7.6) Video is 640X480 and reasonably good. But big file sizes (compression is MJPEG I assume). So use it sparingly or get a large SD Card. 7) Lens movement is very smooth - you can barely hear it.8) Seems well put together, won't fall apart in a day.9) Consumer reports survey on camera reliability gave this brand high marks.10) Flash exposure is mostly on the dot.11) Menu's are simple to use and follows conventions used on other Panasonic cameras.Cons - Ones found so far are minorButtons on back are plastic - I am used to the metal ZS-7.USB connector is an uncommon one - Panasonic should have standardized on the one being used for phones (micro USB?) and made the battery chargeable right inside the camera. This would have added enormous convenience. No charger to supply with camera (use your phone charger) and no extra cable to carry.On/Off and camera/View Pic switches are slide - instead of push button. Wish they were push button - simpler to press than slide a switch.Few panasonic products have dissapointed me (exception being an electric shaver). This camera continues the mostly good luck I'm having with their products. There is no OIS - but I'm not complaining. Its price is super low and it takes dreadfully good pics. What more can I ask for?BTW - I also got an inexpensive case for this. This one fits fine and its quite small in size - http://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-DCB-16-Compact-BLUE/dp/B000P6BSEG/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1289856595&sr=8-11
This review is from: Panasonic Lumix DMC-F2S 10.1MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Silver)I have had this camera for about a month, and love it. It has great features, Leica lenses, and shoots decent video. It is exactly what I was looking for - a camera to toss in my pocket for pint and shoot use.
This review is from: Panasonic Lumix DMC-F2S 10.1MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Silver)Very portable and does well in predicting the right auto setting (but it also allows using scene settings such as portrait, landscape, etc). Important to me was that the photo quality is sharp and further, it does fairly well in low light. That is important since (as other reviewers have noted) the camera has a weak flash resulting in dim snapshots when flash is used. My way around that is to turn the flash feature off and leave it off. The camera is somewhat forgiving for hand shake.Overall I am happy with the camera and can live with the low flash and the need to re-set the self timer after each shot (my other camera leaves this setting on for multiple photos until turned off).
