This review is from: Garmin nvi 1690 4.3-Inch Portable Bluetooth Navigator with nLink! Services (Factory Refurbished)The reason I wrote this was to ease some concerns other may have. After I purchased the refurbished model, I saw some complaints about the subscription to NuLink not being two years, it was the remainder of the original subscription. When I received mine and I registered it, I noticed I only had 7 months left, a quick email to Garmin with a copy of my invoice and they reinstated the remainder of the time, no problems at all.I have purchased refurbished models from Garmin in the past and have never had an issues with the quality of the units. My personal belief is that most of these units are returns from people locking them up and not knowing how to reboot them should it happen and that a quick pass through the technician restores them to normal working order. Now I am off to play with the actual functionality and see if I like my updated GPS....
This review is from: Garmin nvi 1690 4.3-Inch Portable Bluetooth Navigator with nLink! Services (Factory Refurbished)The connected services are great, but the routing engine is terrible. Route calculations slow to a crawl when the vehicle is moving. In order to calculate even the simplest of routes, I have to pull over and stop the car. Garmin's telephone customer support is so overloaded; I was forced to send an e-mail. Three days later, I got a response with an RMA number and instructions to send it back (at my cost) for an exchange. The replacement exhibits the same slow routing. I used to be impressed with Garmin (I've owned seven), but the last two (including a 765T) have been mediocre at best. Garmin is clearly cutting corners to cut costs. Garmin needs to stop rushing poorly tested models out every few months, and focus on regaining the quality and customer service they used to have....
This review is from: Garmin nvi 1690 4.3-Inch Portable Bluetooth Navigator with nLink! Services (Factory Refurbished)I bought this item hoping it would replace my now-dead Dash GPS. Unfortunately, it doesn't even come close. The routing the unit gives is HORRIBLE, and it does not learn standard routes like most GPS's will now. The ads are on the screen whenever you turn the unit on, and although they are small, they are annoying! The only redeeming feature of this unit was the ability (when it worked) to send addresses to it via Google Maps. This unit needed another 6-9 months of quality assurance and beta testing...it isn't worth $99, much less $300....
