This review is from: Syba SY-ADA24007 802.11 b/g Wireless Pocket Size Router and WiFi Adapter 2-in-1 DesignHad I seen other reviews before I ordered this adapter I would have skipped it. The device offers minimal security encryption and minimal SSID customization. The device only accepts 5 character passphrases, and you can only modify the numbers of the SSID, you cannot change the name. Also the device does not support non-broadcast SSID's. The manual states in one small spot, not to try and use the device in Access Point mode unless you are using the power adapter. If you try to run the device in Access Point mode you will end up rendering the device completely inoperable, even as a wireless network adapter. Before breaking the device I was able to use it as an access point with extremely limited range. But as mentioned by previous reviews, the connection kept dropping out. I do not recommend this device unless you are just looking for an AC to USB power adapter. That is the only part included with this product that actually works for something. If you are looking for a portable pocket wireless device, try the D-Link DAP-1350 Wireless N Pocket Router. It is about the same size as the Syba, but works as a router, access point, or a wireless network adapter; all three modes can operate via USB Power, or through the included power adapter. It may cost 3 times as much, but it is 10x better and will last much longer....
This review is from: Syba SY-ADA24007 802.11 b/g Wireless Pocket Size Router and WiFi Adapter 2-in-1 DesignSo if I saw a review title like that I'd say to myself "Oh, there's someone else who doesn't have the knowledge to set up their wireless router mad at their equipment." Let me tell you, I have installed many routers in my lifetime and have posted several favorable reviews of routers here on Amazon. However, this thing is a piece of junk.I am reviewing this as a wireless router/access point, not as a wireless adapter for your computer. I had hoped to use this router for travel to set up my own mini wireless networks in hotel rooms to use Skype on my iPhone to call home for free when in Asia. Theoretically, you should be able to plug this router into an a/c outlet, then plug the ethernet into the internet, and go online. No can do. I tried two computers- windows 7 and XP- and was not successful in securing a connection to the internet via this router. The router would connect and then drop immediately. The manual is written in laughable English. There are references to obtaining a "user id and password from China Telecom" so clearly this thing is re-purposed (maybe it's included with China Telecom's package to home users there?). There are directions on using a ID and password to "access internet."Trust me, this one's worth a pass. The price is great, but it doesn't work....
This review is from: Syba SY-ADA24007 802.11 b/g Wireless Pocket Size Router and WiFi Adapter 2-in-1 DesignI've purchased the router a couple of months ago and to my mistake did not try it right away. Unfortunately, when I tried it wa after possible return date. My mistake. The thing simply does not work. Signal shows and dissapears after a couple of minutes. Even when the router is running, I was unable to connect to DHCP and obtain IP address. I was never to connect to the interned using the router. Wasted money....
