Canon Waterproof Digital - underwater digital camera, waterproof camera

So many of our family's vacations are at beaches, lakes, water-parks, or hikes and bringing along the sensitive digital camera has always been a problem. If I carried it then I could not get in water and I spent more time worrying whether the sand would damage it than taking pics of my family. I lost a camera on a Disney Park fun ride when water suddenly splashed into the ride and we were miserable for losing all our pics. With this camera you can drop it in water and not worry about your pics unless you lose the camera (happened to me another time when I fell overboard and dropped a camera in the open sea). I have other cameras that I have been too lazy to review but I am excited about this one so I sat down to write this review.

This is like a regular Canon Camera with all the features and the added waterproof feature. It can be compared to the new SD780 IS which sells for fifty bucks less. The features are similar, except that this one is waterproof and bulkier and does not have a viewfinder (not that you can see much through a fogged up viewfinder in humid conditions).

Some great features:

- Good looking waterproof camera, "cuteness" is very important, I disliked those clear cases that you have to screw on your camera and as one reviewer reported they can still get fogged up

- Rainproof/Waterproof up to 33 ft, good for most pools or waterparks

- Freeze proof lens up to 14 deg F

- SMART Auto mode that detects the right scene mode for each shot (works great)

- Digic 4 processor, auto shots are nicer than some older Canon cameras, optical image stabilization and motion detection to prevent blurring of images

- 2.5 inch extra bright LCD that's covered by a protective surface to prevent scratches and looks good in bright sun

- 3X optical and 12X digital zoom

- Face detection

- "Blink" detection - the camera gives a blink warning if someone's eyes are closed in the picture

- Contrast correction - Can be set while taking picture or even afterward to correct darker areas

- Continuous shooting lets you capture the perfect water shot

- Scene modes - The auto mode does a good job of sensing the conditions but if you want to set a mode you get the choice of - Night exposure, Panorama (stitch together shots in one), programmable mode, portrait, sunset, beach, fireworks, aquarium, underwater, snow, indoor, kids and pets, foliage, long shutter, color accent (keep only one color in a pic, so the water and jeans will be blue while the people black and white) and color swap (change one color to another, swap the color of your boat from beige to red).

Negatives:

- Slightly bulkier than your typical Canon SD, it's built for water, beach and rugged use, and it's rounder shape with no hard edges can take a fall or two

- No threads for filters

- No RAW mode

- No lens cap but the glass shield is scratchproof

The back panel is pretty intuitive and you probably won't need the manual to figure it out. The buttons have been designed for waterproof operations and the zoom in and out is done through buttons on the back of the camera rather than with the shutter button lever like with other Canon cameras. The photo and video mode is toggled through a round button next to the shutter button.

The best thing about this camera? You can give it to your 6 year old to take underwater pics and not worry about it, how many other "real" cameras can you do that with?! Now I can float down that lazy river at the water park with my family and take some nice shots rather than running along the edge trying to capture the perfect moment. And the best thing is that this camera works just as well on land. It's the perfect no-nonsense take along everywhere (really every where!) vacation camera. Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD

I've been playing with my new Powershot D10 for about a week and really like it. I have been using Canon SLRs for 25+ years, AE1 Program, A1, Elan 7e, and Digital Rebel. When I started looking for a waterproof camera to take snorkeling, my first choice was Canon, based on my many years of satisfaction with their products, and I was very lucky that this camera was released two weeks before leaving for vacation. (Amazon had been showing the camera as available for pre-order until earlier today. I purchased mine from a local camera store.)

I'm very impressed with the picture quality on this camera. The 12 megapixel sensor, coupled with a dozen shooting modes, produce an excellent image. I'm used to controlling aperture and shutter speed on the SLR, so simply selecting "portrait" or "night exposure" mode and letting the camera do all the work just seems too easy. Or, if selecting "portrait" is too difficult, you can select "auto" and just let the camera do it all. Movie quality is also quite good. The LCD screen on the back of the camera seems huge compared to the 1" screen on my old Digital Rebel. It's a great display.

The controls are conveniently arranged, and easy to use, and the associated icons displayed are both informative and intuitive. You can choose to display all the settings or turn them off and just see the image. One of the useful display options is a grid overlay on the screen to assist with shot composition and the "Rule of Thirds." The optical zoom works great. By the time you get to 12x with the digital zoom, the image is kind of grainy, but that's to be expected.

You can take macro photographs an inch or two from your subject. I've had trouble focusing my Digital Rebel in the dark, but Canon seems to have improved low-light focusing quite a bit. It has a manual focus feature that indicates the distance to the subject as you adjust the focus, just in case it can't get the focus right.

I like the Panorama feature, which displays the previous shot on the viewfinder while you're composing the next shot, allowing the photographer to closely match subsequent shots, resulting in panoramic photos with less distortion when they're stitched together. Panorama mode also locks in the exposure value of the first shot so that the exposure in subsequent shots all match the first shot.

The face recognition and blink detection both seem to work well. As the camera focuses, it will zoom in on one of the faces so the photographer can verify correct focus. After the shot is taken, if someone blinked it will identify the face of the person blinking so you can take another shot. These can be turned on or off according to user preference. Images seem very crisp, which I attribute to the image stabilization features, which can also be turned on or off.

I've had the camera in the sink, and it handles six inches of water with no problems. I'll see how it does with thirty two and a half more feet of water when it meets the Atlantic Ocean in a few weeks! The wrist strap attaches to any one of the four corners of the camera (convenient for carrying in either left or right hand) and seems to be pretty secure, so no worries about losing it if you get knocked over by a wave.

I use Photoshop Elements, so I haven't loaded the Canon software and can't comment on that. And since I edit photos on the computer, I doubt that I'll use some of the in-camera editing features, such as black and white, sepia, color swap, and the various color enhancements. I could see that would be useful to those who print directly from the camera, without editing on a computer.

The camera doesn't allow you to shoot in RAW. I generally don't shoot in RAW with my SLR, so that doesn't worry me. It has a number of white balance modes, custom white balance, and auto white balance. It seems to do a good job selecting the correct shooting conditions in auto mode. Colors appear correct.

A couple of drawbacks: The camera isn't threaded so you're not able to attach filters. There's also no lens cap, and I worry about the lens surface getting damaged. For a rugged "adventure" camera, I'm also surprised that there's no GPS chip so that photos can be tagged with the exact location. I look at old slides taken while I was hiking and think "that's neat, why can't I remember where I took that." It would be nice if the EXIF data included lattitude and longitude. (Watch Canon come out with the Powershot D10 "Gold" six months from now that incorporates these features. The curse of being an early adopter.)

The microphone picks up every movement your fingers make as you hold the camera, so it's difficult to capture movies without some camera noise. The speaker on the bottom of the camera is also difficult to hear when playing movies back on the camera, but movies sounds fine when I pop the memory chip into the computer and watch in Quicktime. Movies are produced in the .mov format, so you'll have to do some conversion if you want to do anything with it in Windows Movie Maker. You can also choose between higher quality 640 x 480, or lower quality 320 x 240. (I should post a video review, but look like a dork in movies, so I'll spare everybody that.)

Tried to take a few infrared photos, but the image has the Hot Spot typical of many Canon cameras and lenses. I held a Hoya R72 filter over the lens and took several shots. Bright sunlight is about a 4" exposure, and all shots have a bluish circle in the center.

The drawbacks are very minor compared to the great images this camera produces.

I'm very impressed with this camera. It feels very sturdy, takes great photos, and seems very easy to use. Although I'll probably continue to use my Digital Rebel as my primary camera, I certainly look forward to many years of fun with this camera. - Canon - Waterproof Camera - Underwater Digital Camera - Waterproof Digital Camera'

This review is from: 43\" 110CM 5 in 1 Round Portable Collapsible Multi Disc Light Photographic Lighting Reflector for Studio or any Photography Situation (Translucent, Silver, Gold, White, and Black)I have edited this review to keep up with my new review format, but the sentiments haven't changed!CONSTRUCTION Let's start with this: Is this of the same quality as a pro reflector? No. I am already feeling the rim starting to bend in places and ways it shouldn't, but I do not anticipate it breaking any time soon. The panels themselves are made of good quality material, and so far the case has withstood many travels!FUNCTION Does this thing work like it should? Absolutely. As I mentioned it is made of good materials and has held up very well so far. I am a pro photographer, but never above a good deal - I am a big supporter of "the little guy". The versatility of this little reflector is excellent - you can use it for almost any situation, and I find myself switching from silver to gold to translucent within the same shoot, because we all know that changing an angle outdoors can completely change your lighting! Works quite nicely as a shoot-through if you have an assistant to hold it!OVERALL Would I buy this again? Absolutely. I would rather buy 4 of these over the coming years, rather than spend a lot of money on one, which may or may not be as likely to break in the same amount of time.Cheap.Works.Recommended.**EDIT**Almost a year, and PLENTY of shoots later, and this great piece of equipment is still going strong!!! I use this thing on most out door shoots which don't require off camera flash, and for portraits you can't go wrong! Highly recommended still! You can either order from Papa John's this week or get an excellent Reflector...your choice....

This review is from: 43\" 110CM 5 in 1 Round Portable Collapsible Multi Disc Light Photographic Lighting Reflector for Studio or any Photography Situation (Translucent, Silver, Gold, White, and Black)When I say "cheap", I don't mean poor quality. I mean inexpensive. Digital Juice sells theirs online for $100- and it's the same thing! I have no complaints. This thing works great. But, let's say, for the sake of argument, that it IS poorer quality and only lasts 1/2 as long as the one digital juice sells. So what?! It's only $17! I can buy several more- and still pay less!...

When you get one of these, if you don't already know, look on Y-tube how to fold one back up and put into the case. Dimension: 2.5 X 2.0 inch

Product DescriptionSharp Crusher is the newest grinder brand in the market. It is the ONLY non-aluminum grinder. The metal alloy making up the Sharp Crusher grinder is much stronger a far superior compared to aluminum. Zinc and steel (These 2 metal are much heavier than aluminum) are forged together under extreme heat to produce the highest quality metal alloy. The heavier weight of the grinder feels great in your hand. Its quality is the finest among grinders. The outside finish/coating of Sharp Crusher is UNIQUE. It is the only metallic black chrome polished grinder in the market. The texture of the grinder is different from other grinders. You can distinguish a Sharp Crusher from other grinders by touching and feeling it with your hands. The special coating minimized scratch and wear & tear on the grinder over-time. It will keep the grinder new and shinny for a very long period of time.

This review is from: SHARP CRUSHER 2.50\" Premium Quality Coffee Herb Grinder (non-aluminum grinder)The Chromium Crusher lives up to its name and shreds whatever you put it in. The "CC" has substantial weight to it (compared to alum) and works well. The weight to the lid allows you to push down and spin the lid. Sometimes leaves get stuck in the middle requiring manual intervention - this doesn't happen on the bigger versions however. Starting to notice some discoloration from oxidation, but unit still operates flawlessly. - MountainGambler.com...

This review is from: SHARP CRUSHER 2.50\" Premium Quality Coffee Herb Grinder (non-aluminum grinder)This is a perfect grinder. It perfectly grinds up anything you put in it and the size is great for grinding large amounts of whatever you happen to be putting in it. The magnet is strong, stays on even if you turn the whole thing upside down. Screen works great, kief goes through, everything else stays on top. Some grinders sell for $50+, but with this baby going for around $20, those others would just be a waste of money....

This review is from: SHARP CRUSHER 2.50\" Premium Quality Coffee Herb Grinder (non-aluminum grinder)great product. I've owned a few hand held grinders and this one works the best. a must have for anyone using vaporization. most other grinders look like novelty items beside this one, but don't put your herb in the very center! it will crush it, lol...

REEL120 - Film Processing - de-judder technology which provides the SMOOTHEST picture performance for film based content.

Optional Audio Video Center with additional inputs and Tuner (Not Included)

This review is from: Hitachi UltraVision UT42V702 1.5 UltraThin LCD HDTV Monitor 42 Class (42.02\" Diagonal)Was a nice tv when it was new, however two years after first use, the flat panel screen started showing some vertical lines going down the right side of he screen. Sony indicated it was out of warranty, and that a new screen would be $2500.00 plus install. We put some black tape over the lines, but new ones kept appearing, then when we decided to replace it, no screens were available. Not bad for a $ 4500.00 TV. Next time around an LCD tv from somewhere else.

This review is from: Hitachi UltraVision UT42V702 1.5 UltraThin LCD HDTV Monitor 42 Class (42.02\" Diagonal)This unit was purchased new and used infrequently. Very unhappy as it has now developed a 1.5-2 inch vertical black line running the width of the screen.I will begin the process of repairing the unit. But it is out of warranty, and if you look on the web, you will see that other owners have had this same problem-and it costs thousands for repair.I would strongly discourage others from purchasing a Sony TV.

This review is from: Hitachi UltraVision UT42V702 1.5 UltraThin LCD HDTV Monitor 42 Class (42.02\" Diagonal)I have had the Magnavox 42MF437B 42" LCD HDTV for about 4 months now. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. First of all, we use this TV in our Family room with a DIRECTV HD DVR. I have it set to use the 1080i display from the HD DVR (1080p not available). The picture is very crisp and bright on HD channels that are available. Even using 1080i, fast motion does not seem to have "trails" as I would have expected. I've experimented with 720p vs. 1080i and, to my untrained eye, the higher definition setting even in interlaced is better.Let me go backward for a minute to when I received the TV. The box itself is pretty ingenious. If you bother to read the directions (which, for once, I actually did), the box is quite helpful in setting up the TV. It allows you to mount the stand and plug in the lower speaker in a safe and secure manner prior to standing it up.One of the reasons out side of the features this TV appealed to me was the fact that is is 40.9" wide. We have a TV cabinet that I really did not want to replace that could only accommodate a 41" wide set. I had been looking for something that would fit this range so that my +$1,000 TV wouldn't cost me +$2,000 in furniture. Once I assembled the TV it slide in perfectly with virtually no gap on the side of the cabinet. It sort of has a built in look now. The menus for setting up the TV are fairly intuitive and easy to configure. In the beginning, I was using Dish Network standard service and pulling HDTV over the air with an RCA antenna. This was serviceable but the signal from the OTA side was too week to have reliable service. The TV did just find with the OTA signal when environmental conditions were just right (read, after the sun went down). I am much happier with the DIRECTV HD service now.All in all, this is a fantastic TV for my needs and would highly recommend it to anyone considering a 42" 1080p TV.

This review is from: Hitachi UltraVision UT42V702 1.5 UltraThin LCD HDTV Monitor 42 Class (42.02\" Diagonal)I have this TV and I am very happy with it. It has a very nice, bright, crisp picture. It has TRUE 1080 - be careful when looking at sets. 1366 X 728 pixels is 720P HD. 1920 x 1080 is full 1080i/p HD. Often times sellers give the pixels and then say the TV takes 1080i input - this does not mean it can display all those pixels though! Check the pixels if you want 1080, it should have 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has lots of inputs including 2 HDMI (3 would be nicer but many TVs just come with 1).Now, this is not the most full-featured model and you may be able to find more features for your money. It does not have picture-in-picture (bummer). The menus are navigable, but sparse and somewhat awkward (but not too bad). The automatic format detection is a bit buggy - it may try to automatically change the aspect ratio during the middle of shows and movies and that can be annoying. You just need to manually set the TV to Widescreen in this case. Overall, I am very happy with the set.

This review is from: Hitachi UltraVision UT42V702 1.5 UltraThin LCD HDTV Monitor 42 Class (42.02\" Diagonal)I enjoyed this LCD, even though several sources not to trust Magnavox/Philips electronics. The Magnavox has really cheap speakers, a non-universal remote, problems with bright reds, but it was still a decent LCD for the price and had a max res of 1080P. However, after 2.5 mont...

This review is from: Panasonic TH-42PX500U 42-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready Plasma TVI made the mistake of buying both a Magnavox 27" stereo TV and separate DVD Recorder in 2005. The DVD Recorder broke within the 1st 2 months. I was okay on that as I'd purchased an extended warranty. I little voice told me that I should return the TV too as this didn't bode well for this brand. (I had never bought Magnavox before, but I figured that the technology's been around so long what can happen). It wasn't much longer until the TV would behave strangely when I turned it on after it had been off a while. There would be a series of clicks, the audio would cut in & out before it would go silent. I called Magnavox with this problem at least twice within the first year. they acted like it was just a little software quirk, the even called the technique "resetting" the system. they led me on with this story until the warranty expired. Now, I'm told that I have to take it to an "authorized" service provider for repairs...at my expense of course. When the problem recurred this weekend, I did an internet search to see if anyone knew anything about this problem. I learned from an 'ask the experts' web site that this was a KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT, one person wrote in about it being a problem with the capacitor. when I called Magnavox about this I was told "I'm so sorry..." a variety of phrases meaning tough luck your warranty's out. One thing I've learned the hard way: when all of the customer support is in the Phillipines, no matter when you call, and there is neither a phone number nor an email address for corporate offices/customer service, you can expect poor service.

This review is from: Panasonic TH-42PX500U 42-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready Plasma TVIf you subscribe to Consumer Reports--as I do (5 year subscription)--see my review on this magazine--note that the Panasonic plasmas are rated not just a little, but much higher than any other brand name within the comparable price range. Panasonic has plasma down. You must pay thousands more to get a better picture. This is the bottom line at this time. Perhaps things may change in time, but not quite yet. I am not affiliated with Panasonic and am merely summarizing my extensive and thorough research into plasma and lcd televisions. Now, as to the question of lcd versus plasma, it is also a given at this time that plasma offers a superior picture which must be the primary concern of a videophile. Enough said on this account. If television picture is less important to you than ... whatever (?) --power consumption perhaps?, then you may consider lcd. I considered lcd tv's long and hard, and really wanted to believe in lcd technology, but in the end concluded the larger screen lcd tv's are drastically overpriced while offering poor performance. Perhaps technology will change this scenario one day, but I doubt it.Now, if you accept my position that Panasonic plasma is the way to go for high def, the next question is, which Panasonic plasma to choose?Mainly it depends on how much you wish to spend. The more money, the higher definition and the bigger screen you can afford. I found that the best price/performance ratio was to be had with this humble EDTV model. I do not wish to sign up for HDTV at this time due to the higher cable costs, so my motive in buying a higher def TV is mainly for watching DVD movies in their native resolution. I can personally attest that this EDTV is excellent (and is rated excellent by Consumer Reports) for DVD movies of all stripes. Prior to purchasing, I researched the th-42pwd8uk so much online that I knew its name by heart. Daily I entered this name in Google to read reviews, and observed that it was widely acclaimed for an excellent picture at a reasonable price. At its current price, there is only one serious competitor to the th-42pwduk, and it is the retail version of the Panasonic 42", which has a silver case rather than a black one. The other brand names, Sony, Samsung, Phillips et al, have not at this time received comparable ratings for those units in the same price range (below $3000). A consensus has emerged placing the crown of achievement upon Panasonic's head. This is the professional version of the 42" Panasonic plasma EDTV; not to be confused with the higher-resolution, and correspondingly higher price HDTV. Also, not to be confused with the ugly silver version of the 42" EDTV being sold at the retail chains. Panasonic has a wide array of models and it gets quickly confusing sorting them all out. I studied them all and settled on t...

Rescue Knife - emergency, knife

My knife just arrived today, and I am very impressed. It has a good weight in the hand without feeling heavy, and without feeling too light and cheap. The construction is rock solid and feels like it can take a serious beating without showing any wear. I have large hands, and the grip is comfortable and unlikely to slip. The liner lock is feels very sturdy and the knife opens quickly and smoothly with a flick of the thumb. It doesn't lock when closed, which would be nice, but that's really not an issue. It fits nicely in the pocket too. With the knife in my pocket and clipped to the pocket edge, it doesn't feel to bulky or get in my way.

This is an excellent knife, especially at such a low price.

Great knife, belt cutter and hammer included! Real help for hobby too, not only for those who intended to dive to save somebody from sank vehicle. Smooth blade movement, one hand operated (either one!), sharp, including a spring on the handle so you can wear it practically anywhere. Nylon sheath available too! Recommended!

First off, what's not in the description and is hard to make out from the picture is that this knife has an emergency glass breaker on the butt end of the handle- a good extra feature considering it's being owned with emergency use in mind.

This is an excellent knife; very smooth blade motion, locks into place without jiggling, very sharp blade and point- very. Pant/belt clip is very well attached/tight- you won't have to worry about this falling loose, its almost idiot-proof. Tanto design gives very solid feel along with strong, solid spine. Highly recommended. Seller provides shipping information as well- very important to me.

Just received this knife, speedy shipping from seller. Knife is light and feels balanced in hand. Smooth opening (non-assisted) and solid locking mechanism. Blade wasn't very sharp but came up nicely once on the stone. Serrated portion was fine though. This unit will be kept in my truck's emergency kit so it will not be an EDC.

I ordered the knife while in Afghanistan to have as an everyday pocket knife and as a last option weapon. The knife is built well and i like the design and the size. It's also quick and easy to open with one hand. The only complaint I have is it's not very sharp. The drop from the point to the angle is pretty dull and the rest of the blade is decently sharp. It takes a few strokes to cut through simple things but it gets the job done. It could easily be sharpened to your liking. I would get the blade again especialy for this price.

For the price, you cannot beat this knife for utility. It has a sharp, nice-sized blade, a very grip-able handle, opens reasonably well and locks securely. I use it to carry while on my motorcycle. A good knife goes a long way when you're on a bike. The serrations allow you to easily cut thru materials a straight edge might have trouble with, the tanto-shaped blade can double as a straight screwdriver (not recommended) and the glass punch can double as a hammer if needed...the seatbelt cutter is just a bonus.

It is a great knife, comes out of the box sharp. Has glass breaker and seat belt cutter, hope never need to use them but glad to have them at hand. The texture of grip is really nice when cutting. When hold in hand if were to use glass breaker had a nice spot on top for your thumb. Fits great in pocket, nice low profile. The knife is a litter bigger than expected, even seeing the dimensions being correct, still was bigger than i guess i suspected. But would rather think knife was little to big than to small. GREAT PRODUCT!

this is my second s&w knife and i am very happy. i'm going overseas soon doing convoys and i wanted a multipurpose knife that i can count on and i found that in this knife. the blade and point are practically razor sharp and the serrated portion is big enough to work but doesn't dominate the whole blade. i tested the seat belt cutter on some zip ties and a thick canvas strap and it performed up to par. it also is out of the way enough that it doesn't effect the grip. i have yet to use the glass breaker but i'm look for any reason to. it seems solid and it a big part of the handle. the rubber grip feels secure and not cheap that is will have a negative affect on your grasp. for not even $30 with shipping and handling what are you really risking? if you use is for a year and loose it or break it (which doesn't seems likely) you should have gotten your use out of it. i'm happy, secure and confident in my purchase- you should be too. - Pocket Knife - Knife - Emergency - Rescue Knife'
