Presentlly the whole element is a nice rust color. I am afraid to use it any longer. I also see that the pot is made in China. I suspect that is the problem. They have continued to make junk after junk and the U. S. companies keep wanting China to make more junk for Americans. I will make sure that I do not purchase another Elite Hot Pot again. All I know right now is that I am out $12.00. Thanks for the eye opener....
