The flakes are LARGE (about 1/2 inch by 1 inch), not really the sort of thing that's easy to use in baking or cooking. I'll have to figure out how to shred it now. It's not sweetened which is a PLUS, but it also wasn't super duper fresh, at least it that's how it tastes. It's A LOT of coconut for the price. I have so much I have to invent new dishes to use it all....

If you want more finely shredded coconut, you can use a food processor to chop them up. I make macaroons regularly as a tasty way of adding healthy coconut to our diet. Since these are organic and unsweetened I use my own sweeteners and other healthy ingredients to make great recipes. Buy in bulk if you plan to use the coconut regularly. Note, these are dehydrated flakes, so macaroons made with this are not the usual kind made with fresh, finely shredded coconut. They are more crispy like a cookie and we love them....

I will never again purchase what the grocery store sells. It is so good right out of the bag, that I ate more than I should have, I just couldn't resist. I am thinking of buying a coconut cookbook so that I can use this product daily, that's how much I enjoyed it....
