"Trish Deseine's Nobody Does It Better offers a collection of recipes that are approachable, imaginative and fresh-tasting." -- New York Daily News
This review is from: Nobody Does It Better: Why French Home Cooking is Still the Best in the World [Hardcover]I purchased this book as the tv series to match it was shown on Irish television.I found the book very good especially the introduction to all things french. The quality of the foods used and the manner in which they are presented were great.Trish has a very relaxed and easy manner and it shows in her writting.I have tried 5/6 recipies in the book and with great success. After reading the book,I now feel confident to experiment with a lot of different foods especially truffles and foie gras and organic products.I loved the section on cheeses and all the varieties available. In general I found the book great and will be buying this book for my friends as a gift.I would recommend this book for people who can cook quiet well as it takes a little knowledge to prepare most of the dishes. My favourite recipe was the organic chicken with apple, cream and good cider and apple brandy with mushrooms.Highly Recommended!!!!!!...
This review is from: Nobody Does It Better: Why French Home Cooking is Still the Best in the World [Hardcover]I was given this book for Christmas 2009 and have made quite a few of the recipes from it with great success. Where one person above here calls the book "glib," I call it "not fussy." This is a for the most part a simple collection of French dishes for home entertaining by an Irish woman who lived in France and wanted to share her favorite home entertaining experiences. I love the book's lack of pretension and its total accessibility. You may surprise yourself like I did when you dare to try some of the more unusual dishes like Pork Cheeks Braised in Apple Cider and you find there is nothing weird about it - it's just shockingly delicious! The Fondant au Chocolat is so simple and yet so rich in chocolate depth and satisfying and ultimately just plain classy. If you're looking for a comprehensive French cookbook, this ain't it. But if you're entertained by one food writer's personal stories about living in France and learning about its food and sharing her favorite recipes, you may like this book as much as I do....
This review is from: Nobody Does It Better: Why French Home Cooking is Still the Best in the World [Hardcover]It's difficult to see how the author became one of the best-known cookbook writers in Europe, as the jacket flap says. Recipe instructions are sketchy and glib, and a number of the ingredients (especially specific cheeses) difficult, if not impossible, to find in the U.S. The photography is very good, but that's not enough to redeem this mess....
