This review is from: FISKARS 40127097 RollSharp Knife SharpenerI tried the Fiskars axe sharpener on my axes and it worked so well, I decided to try the knife sharpener, too. I wasn't disappointed! I've had a Marttiini knife for 15 years that I've used for everything from whittling to slicing tomatoes, and I'd never sharpened it in all that time because it was still sharper than most -- then I swiped it through the Fiskars knife sharpener ten, twenty times, and now it's razor sharp! I have yet to see how long the super-sharp edge lasts, but I expect it to last a lot of cutting, since the axes I sharpened with the Fiskars axe sharpener stayed razor sharp after a full day of chopping! My only gripe is that I can't get the entire knife blade into the sharpener -- about a half of an inch by the hilt won't reach the stones, because the hilt gets in the way. But I guess that part of the blade isn't used nearly as often anyway. I then had to use this sharpener on all my knives, and most of them are now sharper than they were new. The sharpener is dish-washer safe and, though it doesn't say so on the product page, it has a lifetime warranty. I'll never use a dull knife again!...
This review is from: FISKARS 40127097 RollSharp Knife SharpenerThe Fiskars "roll sharp" is very inexpensive and well made given the plastics used in its constructions. My unit is Made in Finland as many Fiskars products use to be before they opened their Chinese factories.I think I prefer tools that you run over an upside down knife (Accusharp, Norton) rather than push into the sharpener. One exception to this view would be the Chef's Choice motorized sharpeners. However, the Accusharp creates a 20 deg. edge which is problematic for Japanese cutlery.I bought this sharpener for a Mac knife with 15 deg edge because it was recommended by the mfgr. I tested it on a well used knife and while it restored the edge after several strokes through the ceramic wheels, the edge is still far too rough as seen through an eye loupe. A polishing step is definitely required afterwards and I think it should have a 2nd set of smoother ceramic wheels.A knife run through this sharpener will cut through newsprint but there is still some hesitation compared to factory sharp which simply slices through with complete ease.A very light touch will probably just hone the edge restoring the cutting performance after so many uses against the cutting surface.I'm not confident that running a brand new razor sharp Mac knife (MSK-65) through this Fiskars sharpener won't dull it somewhat as the ceramic wheels are partially serrated.See this video showing the sharpener in action:[...](To open the clear cage to access the sharpening wheels release the catch on the underside)....
This review is from: FISKARS 40127097 RollSharp Knife SharpenerI have had a Fiskars Rollsharp Knife Sharpener for several years and it is an incredible easy way to sharpen knives without damaging them. I purchased a MAC knife some years ago and they only recommended this item to sharpen it. You only have to swipe the blade through 10-15 times and it will bring back a nice edge. I highly recommend this product for the average person that wants to keep their knives sharp without ruining them....
