Tv Wall Mount - wall mount, articulating wall mount

I was a little apprehensive in buying this item on Amazon. I could only find one review on Amazon prior to my purchase. The main complaint of the review was regarding the distance between the wall studs and that fact that this distance was not being spelled out in the specs. However, the review did state that the HRM-100 was "....definitely sturdy." I couldn't agree more. The HRM-100 is sturdy as an ox. It is solid steel and built very well. I'm currently using it for a 32" HDTV. I plan to swap out my TV for a 47" and I have no concerns regarding the ability of the HRM-100 to support a larger TV. Most homes in the U.S. were built to spec with the studs that are 16 inches apart. So, this should be a non-issue for most buyers. After bolting the HRM-100 to the wall with four huge bolts, I was ready to watch TV. The install was great and directions were sufficient. I recommend this to anyone. I couldn't believe the price on Amazon compared to other articulating mounts. The HRM-100 was approx 1/2 to 1/3 the price of other options. But a lower price definitely did not mean lower quality. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. Hercules(by Opteka) HRM-100 Super Strong Plasma and LCD TV Dual-Arm Articulating Wall Mount for 32-Inch to 60-Inch Displays (Black)

THE GOOD - The mount itself I rate as a 5 and highly recommend. Like the other reviews, I agree it is a great value, solid (built like a tank), high quality, and relatively easy to install (with good hardware-see below). Mounted a 50" plasma that weighs ~80 lbs. I cannot detect a degree of sag when the TV is turned and extended from the wall.

THE BAD - I rate the hardware that comes with the mount at a 1. There is no excuse for hardware this cheap. Like a couple of other reviews, I drilled the proper 3/16" size hole in the stud to mount the lag screw. With a 1/4" rachet drive, and moderate pressure, I twisted the head of the lag screw right off 3/4 of the way in. This presents a major problem, because I measured very carefully, ensuring that the unit was centered on the wall, level, etc. With the broken shank of the lag bolt embedded in the wall, there is no way to get it out, and the hole becomes unusable. Therefore, I needed to drill 4 new holes just higher, get better lag bolts and start again. Annoying and time consuming!

THE UGLY- One of the allen screws that anchors the TV hanger clips was so bent that it would not screw in without striping the threads. Hardware is cheap, unrated junk. Too bad, I would gladly pay an extra $1 for better hardware.

SOLUTION - If planning to install this TV mount in wood studs, before the mount arrives, go to the hardware store and purchase (4) 5/16" X 3" zinc plated lag screws. Anything at the hardware store in the US will be better than what comes with the mount. Most good bolts should have numbers and markings on the head, indicating strength/use. This hardware has none.

Drill a 3/16 hole (going from memory - whatever diameter is in the installation instructions) at least 3" into the wall. With the thickness of the drywall/plaster (typically 1/2" - 3/4") you will end up with a ~2 1/2" deep hole in the stud. A trick my father taught me - get a dry bar of soap and drag the lag screws across the soap bar, getting "shreads" of soap on the threads. This will make it easier to turn the lag screw and reduce the chances of the lag bolt breaking. Don't forget to use the washers on the end of the lag screws, and the cheapies that come with the mount should be fine.

Hopefully you will not also have a bent allen screw, otherwise that will be a separate trip to the store. Good luck!

Hello I bought this product about 1 week ago. I have a 47" TV and i was a little worried about the weight of my tv. Let me say this, After i mounted the mount to the wall hiting two studs. I hung from it. I weigh 215lbs.. And the mount didnt budge. This is a great product. My dad has a omin mount and says that this mount looks better, and you can run the wires alot easier wth this rather than the omni mount. This is a great pruduct. And i would like to hank the other reviews, because thats what sold this item. Im getting a 55" for my back room. No doubt that this mount will do the job. Thank You very much. Sgt James Heinold

I bought this product for my 40" Samsung Series 5 LCD. Because I was planning to upgrade it in the future to a 52", I went with the larger size. (And the HRM-100 is definitely sturdy.) However, my apartment already has pre-installed TV mount screws at 24" apart--a stud distance that is not that uncommon. BUT, the Hercules HRM-100 mount only supports a narrow range of 11.75"-18.00". I would not be upset *had they put this info in the product description*. But they did not, and now I am paying $20 to send it back. My $0.02: go with a product that has better explanation in the product description... or know for sure that you have 16" studs in your walls. - Wall Mount - Flat Panel Mounts - Lcd Wall Mount - Articulating Wall Mount'

Eligible For Super Saver Shipping - fabric grips, fasteners

I bought this after trying a piece that a friend gave me. Velcro sticks great. Adhesive sticks well to a clean, relatively smooth surface. Has survived outdoors for one Las Vegas summer (so far). This velcro is made in white and in black. Won't adhere well to cloth and sewing is not possible (gums up the needle). Expensive, but well worth it. I'll buy it again in a few years when I've used up my first box. Velcro Industrial Strength Sticky-Back Hook and Loop Fasteners, 2 Inches x 15 Feet Roll, White (90198)

Great stuff, super-practical. Local hardware shops had small pieces of velcro for sale, but these 2-inch strips are much more useful for my purposes. I've used this to attach hubs, switches, and even a network drive to the back of my desk, out of sight. Sometimes tape is not reliable and hot melt is too permanent, and velcro is perfect.

I love any velcro, but this is definately extra strong adhesive. I love the large roll that I can cut to any length I need. The quantity is worth the price. I do suggest you have 1 pair of scissors especially for velcro. The adhesive sticks to them and you'll need to clean them off periodically with a knife. That will cause difficulties with anything else you may want to cut.

Using this stuff to secure laptops in service trucks. It holds them so well we've had to reduce the amount of velcro we put on them so we can get the laptops off the mount without breaking them. Great product!!

This velcro is fantastic. At 2 inches wide there is a lot of surface for more secure fastening. The hook and loop fastener adheres to each othe very securly. The adhesive is super strong. Be very careful when applying the velcro to a surface with the adhesive because it is industrial strength and it sticks very securly. You only get one chance to do it right. - Fasteners - Eligible For Super Saver Shippin - Easy To Use - Fabric Grips'

Underwater Digital Camera - underwater digital camera, waterproof camera

Just took the new camera on a white water rafting trip down the Grand Canyon. Clearly the camera met the specs for water tightness and shock ability as this type of trip had both. Pictures were of low quality, with little ability to handle a mix of shadows and light. Shutter is slow and unresponsive to the moment. In bright sunshine, or very low evening light, the lack of a view finder rendered most pictures a pure guess. Controls at the top of the camera for on/off and snapping the picture were too low a profile to allow for handling in tough situations. Worst of all was dismal battery life--only able to get about 100-125 pictures, while carefully turning the camera off in between, before battery was exhausted. Overall--very disappointing. Fujifilm FinePix XP10 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Green)

Took the Fuji XP10 out twice; once camping at Lake Tahoe and again at Kern River. The Fuji functioned well on the first outting, but started developing problems on the latter camping trip: moisture started developing in the lens area, causing photos to appear foggy. The display became disrupted, as the moisture that permeated the camera began to make it's way through the housing.

I sent the Fuji XP10 back to Fuji in hopes of getting it replaced, but received an invoice stating, "Water damage in camera not covered under warranty."

Um, no kidding.

The invoice also requested a payment of approximately $118 for an exchange of the same camera, with $100 of the cost going towards "labor"... Labor for what?!?! That's like buying a new XP10 with a little over a $20 discount over what I paid originally!

What's the point of marketing a "waterproof" camera, when it's not really waterproof and Fuji won't even honor the warranty to make things right? It would serve Fuji well to learn from other companies that unconditionally back the products that they sell, like Pelican Products and Strider Knives. Don't claim your product is waterproof, freezeproof, dustproof, and shockproof, unless you can back your product under warranty. I'm going to pass on Fuji's offer to exchange my camera for the $118 fee, which I can use towards an Olympus Tough camera! ;-)

As clean and compact as the Fuji XP10 appears, I will suggest to potential buyers of this camera to spend the extra money for the Olympus Tough series, which I am now considering. The Olympus Tough series may not be aesthetically pleasing as the Fuji XP10, but, like the AK-47 and Glock, the Olympus will probably work.

Buy the Fuji XP10 at your own risk.

I got this camera to replace my previous underwater / shockproof Canon D10, which died after about 8 months for no apparent reason. When I got the D10, it was the only low-cost point-and-shoot I could find for light underwater use, which made it good in its own way, but the electronics and sensor and etc. were already a couple of years out of date on the Canon, plus it was really big and bulky.

I don't do serious underwater work, but do want a camera I can take out in the rain and occasionally in a swimming pool or to the beach, without worrying about it. Also with small kids, the likelihood of a camera getting dropped is high, so a sturdy model is key.

This little Fujifilm advertises the same kind of water- and shock-proof characteristics as the Canon, but it's a whole lot more modern in its features, and a whole lot smaller, which is great. I haven't used it underwater yet, but for everyday use it takes good pictures.

A few issues I have with it. One, the cable connector is nonstandard. It should be mini-USB, like so many other things - I keep a mini USB hanging off my computer anyway, and if I lose a mini USB cable it's easy to find another, vs. the Fuji cable which doesn't match anything else I own.

Second, the mechanicals are not quite as polished as I'd like. The waterproof cover for the cable connector doesn't seat well - it's very hard to get in. And the battery cover has a strange hinge device that was confusing to figure out and I fear will not last well, since I have to open it frequently to extract the memory card, because the cable connector is nonstandard and hard to reseal.

All in all I would still recommend this camera, and I hope these few flaws get corrected in a future model.

I bought this camera for the waterproof feature, for beach and snorkeling photos. I took it to the beach and within 30 minutes it broke. The camera was never more than 2 feet underwater and it never hit anything. Water began leaking in the back display screen and the camera stopped functioning. Water also got in the front lens area and battery. Fortunately I was able to get the photos I had taken off the memory card.

Picture quality was really nice and the display screen size is large for easy viewing. But if you plan on taking it in the water I suggest buying a different camera. - Weatherproof - Underwater Digital Camera - Digital Camera - Waterproof Camera'

Internal Hard Drive

I have bought a LOT of the 2TB WD Caviar drives. I have had excellent results with them on my iMac. I use them primarily for data storage where fast data retrieval is not a consideration. I'm more concerned with plugging them into these USB-based drive docks when I need the data. However, I'm also interested in them from an electrical perspective, just because ... well, just because I'm interested in them. Over the years I have worked my way up the ladder of hard drive storage capacities. Like many of you, I've been rather appalled at how hot these older models would get. I swear, you could fry an egg on some of them. I never felt comfortable with their longevity, fearing that they would most likely burn themselves up. Fortunately, none did.

When the Caviar Green product line came out (1TB was when I first took notice), I was quite intrigued at the claimed power reduction. In electronics, heat is the main enemy of components. Usually every 10 degree C rise in temperature translates into a halving of component life. The Caviar brand looked like a way to get a much more reliable drive if the power reduction numbers actually panned out.

I took one of the drives in to work where I have fancy test gear at my disposal. In particular, I have some very good Tektronix current probes that let me measure DC and AC currents. I built a little cable that let me get to the +12V and +5V lines so that I could clamp my current probes around the wires to measure current consumption. I connected the two power leads to power supplies so that I could also vary the two voltages. In this fashion, I can accurately see and measure power consumption of the drive as I exercise the drive. I get far more accurate measurements this way than you can with a simple watt-meter, which seldom let you see fractional watts.

Since I can't (actually, don't know how to) embed scope photos in this review, all I can do is verbally describe my observations. My tests are far from extensive, but they will give you a good idea of how much power these drives draw, and when they draw it.

* When the drive is just sitting there, doing nothing but spinning, the +12V current drain is 0.24A and the +5V drain is 0.13A. That totals 4.2 watts of power during idle. I have not measured earlier, high-power drives, but I'm willing to bet the Caviar Greens draw at most half the power of traditional hard drives. I would not be surprised if it were 1/3 the power.

* If you shut off one voltage, the other supply stops drawing all power. It's a convenient way to power the drives on and off. I would suggest power cycling the +5V rail as the circuitry to shut off the +5V supply with a simple PFET is simpler than that for the +12V rail.

* When the drives are first powered up, +5V draws an almost constant 500-600 mA. +12V current is a ramp, starting at 200 mA and works its way up to 600 mA after about 10 seconds, when the drive is then up to speed. At this point, the +12V peak current drops down to idle spinning) current of 0.24A. It does not vary much after this, regardless of disk activity (erase, write, read, etc.). On the other hand, the +5V supply current gets busy. It's pretty clear that the head servo is driven from the +5V supply and not the +12V supply. It's hard to verbally describe the +5V current, but I would say the average current during head movement activity is about 400 mA. When there is no activity, the +5V current is about 0.13A. When the drive is done doing what it is doing, then it drops into the 4.2W idle power mode that I mentioned above. If you are a power supply designer, you should be aware that these DC currents I cite are averages, and that you have a "hash" of AC currents that result in the average values I list. The +5V current has a hash of about 300mA p-p, and the +12V current hash is maybe 400mA p-p.

* I have never succeeded in getting OSX to put the drives to sleep. I've tried all the utilities in the Mac universe (SpinDown, Cocktail), but no matter what you do, the drives never want to got to sleep, at least for me. If WD puts out a utility for the PC, they certainly offer no support for OSX. Even if you properly eject the drives from the desktop, they sit there spinning and drawing 4.2W. Hardly seems "fully green" to me.

* During the idle mode, my infrared thermometer measures a case temperature rise of 12 degrees C, which is a pretty low number. UL safety limits for human hand touch temperatures are usually between 50-55 degree C -- you'll begin to pull your hand back at that temperature range. So if the drive is 12 degrees above ambient, and you are sitting at normal room temperatures (25 degrees), then your drive temperature is only about 37 degrees (98.6 degrees F, just like a human!). This explains why people are reporting that the drive "feels pretty cool." As these things go, they do indeed run quite cool.

Here's hoping that some of you more technically-inclined customers out there find this data useful. Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Green SATA II Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive - WD20EARS'

Hamilton Beach 80374 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, Black

Removable grinding chamber for easy pouring and dishwasher cleanup

Precise cup & fineness settings for perfect results

Hidden cord storage

The Ultimate Performing Coffee grinder , grinds up to 15 cups of beans. Takes all the guesswork out of grinding , as it automatically grinds coffee to the preset roast settings for the best tasting coffee . Internal cord wrap. Dishwasher safe removable stainless steel grinding chamber with cover .

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 80374 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, BlackI couldn't recommend this grinder more highly. It is solidly constructed, and the manufacturer took the time to add all the little details that are missing on cheaper models, like no-slip feet and a retractable cord (which is a little short, perhaps the one negative to this otherwise perfect product). The stainless steel grinder bowl is well designed - it has gradiated markings to let you know how many beans to put in for the number of cups of coffee you intend to brew, and it perfectly grinds the beans to your desired coarsness. In addition, it is removable AND dishwasher safe, making for easy cleaning. The machine's slim, tall profile is ideal for easy on-counter or cabinet storage, and the black / stainless steel finish is attractive and a good match to most major coffee maker and espresso machine brands. The grinder provides multiple different settings for different coarsness and the amount of beans you are grinding, and since the grinding time is pre-set you can just push the button and move on to doing something else while the coffee grinds. It may take the "art" out of coffee grinding, but it will give you a great cup of coffee every time. A final note - you may feel constrained by the pre-set options, but they still provide quite a bit of flexibility. If you like your coffee weaker, just put in a few less beans than your desired cup mark would call for (or vice versa if you like your coffee stronger). Having the specific settings means that when your experimenation finally comes out the way you want it to, you'll be able to remember next time ("oh, I used the 4-cup measure of beans to 8 cups of water, and I ground it on the medium-coarse setting") rather than having to try to guess at what you did to get that "perfect cup."I can't imagine anything else that I would want in a grinder - the only semi-common option that it is missing is extra storage for beans or ground coffee; these features are not missed, however, as I always grind my beans fresh and I store them in a cool, dry airtight container. Storing your beans or grounds in the grinder is a sure way to ruin their taste. Is this the perfect grinder? I'd say so. I give it a perfect 5/5....

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 80374 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, BlackWhen my husband and I got married we EACH owned our own coffee grinder. Both of them were very dependable (one was a Waring, one a Brauning) and it took many years for them to both wear out. The Waring's plastic lid deteriorated by bits and pieces, but when we got this new grinder we still use it for a spice mill! But this one is the best ever---we just love it. It's much better than our old ones in every way. You can easily adjust the grind, and best of all the cup is detachable so it's very easy to get the coffee into the filter with NO MESS (that's one reason it doesn't need a long cord). It's even attractive-looking! We have nothing negative to say about this grinder---it's a great product. UPDATE: TWO YEARS LATER!I bought this grinder in June 2007 and it is still going strong after daily use for over 2 years. I've had none of the "cap-loosening problem" or "stopped working" that others reported. I'm now buying a second one for my vacation home. Things I love about this grinder:1 You don't have to stand there and hold the button2 It has multiple grind selections and it really DOES grind to espresso fineness3 You can put the coffee in the lid for transport instead of having to drag the whole grinder over to your coffee pot4 It's really dependable 5 It's attractive6 Reasonably priced (with free shipping!)7 Retractable cord! Yay! 8 Metal lid hasn't eroded at all over 2 years9 And it's easy to use, too!Best coffee grinder we've ever owned.UPDATE: FOUR YEARS LATER! Still going strong, no problems!...

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 80374 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, BlackThe machine is not really a "hands free" coffee grinder. The clear plastic cover/cap has a safety mechanism such that the machine will not grind unless the cover is twisted firmly all the way into place. After some usage, in my case about a month, the cover starts to walk out of position ever so slightly because of the vibration from the grinding motor. The result is the grinder shuts off. Frustrating until I figured ...

40 settings from espresso to press

240 watt DC motor

Front- mounted pulse button allows for ease when grinding directly into a brew basket.

One year warranty

8 oz bean hopper and 5 oz grounds container.

The Baratza Virtuoso grinder's German-made conical burrs guarantee superb home coffee grinding.

This review is from: Baratza Virtuoso Conical Burr Coffee Espresso GrinderI've been using this for three weeks. It grinds gorgeously and you can choose how fine/coarse you want the grind. I put it at 16 for my drip coffee. It's easy to use if you don't have some hand issues (ie, arthritis). Anyone with hand/joints issues, this has no handle to pull out the container that holds the ground coffee. You have to grasp it by the edges and pull, which can be hard for some folks. The only reason I worry about the quality is that the little knob that you turn to choose how long it will grind has already fallen off once. No biggie. I put it back in. But a grinder THIS expensive should not have loose parts coming off after only 2 weeks of use. So, I'll be a bit anxious about how long it will work effectively and intact.Still, I'm happy with how it works so far, just not so happy that I'd give it a perfect score.Mir...

This review is from: Baratza Virtuoso Conical Burr Coffee Espresso GrinderI bought this grinder when it was a new product a couple of years back and it has performed well with near daily use all this time. They have excellent FAQs and documentation on their website for people who have any questions on operation or need to troubleshoot a problem. If you call or email them, you get a response or person on the line quickly who will walk you through assessing the problem and will send you out a replacement part, at no charge, asap. Companies like Baratza(and amazon.com) still understand how to create customer loyalty. If you need a conical burr grinder (any coffee enthusiast does), you'll get years of use and enjoyment out of this one....

This review is from: Baratza Virtuoso Conical Burr Coffee Espresso GrinderI bought this grinder at a little coffee store in Lynnwood, WA. 2 1/2 years ago and had to call the factory right off the bat to get a new timer knob. They were great and I had the knob in two days. It has been absolutely trouble free except for once I neglected to clean it and it refused to start until I did. It is very simple to clean and use, dependable and the grind is good over the entire 40 point range. I use different settings as I like to change my coffee habits every now and then but mostly it's on 20.Really this is the only machine you need for household or light commercial use. It does the same thing the $400.00 unit does and by far , it is better than any blade grinder. This is not a toy, it is a very heavy machine made from metal with very little plastic.I would recommend it to any one looking for a good grinder. It's one of those set it up and forget it units that sets on the counter and just keeps going and going and going. It's just a little loud, Not noisy, but after all is is grinding beans. Sometimes I wonder as I get older if it is me or the coffee pot that is really making the noise....

This review is from: Nostalgia Electrics HHP-100 Hollywood Hot Air Popcorn MakerBought this thing for my wife as a Christmas gift. It has a cool look to it, and the popcorn that it puts out is fluffy, we use the orville reddenwhatever kernels. The problem with the machine is that it only pops about 35 to 40% of the kernels you put in it. The rest become dangerous projectiles that shoot out of the machine and fly about the room like someone exploded a shrapnel grenade in the middle of your kitchen. Keep your kids from getting anywhere near this thing. Called customer service but did not get a response. Oh yeah, for what its worth, the battery cover for the marquis was also missing from the box....

This review is from: Nostalgia Electrics HHP-100 Hollywood Hot Air Popcorn MakerMy mother bought this as a gift for me. It is the cutest looking popcorn maker ever but it does nothing but make a lot of noise and pop maybe a handful of popcorn within 10 minutes. The rest of the seeds just burn, I tried 4 different brands of seeds. The company itself offers no assistance and refuse to send a new one. What a waste of money. My old $10 one from Big Lots lasted 5 years. This was useless right of the box. The company knows it too, that's why they won't take it back. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!...

This review is from: Nostalgia Electrics HHP-100 Hollywood Hot Air Popcorn MakerBought this for my friend for Christmas. She was so excited to start using. She prepared the machine as directed, melted her butter to add on top when done and had 15 minutes before her movie night started. She plugged the machine, which never popped any popcorn but did short circuit and shocked her when she unplugged the machine. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! Not to mention it made me feel like I gave her a cheap gift....
