This review is from: Hercules Dualpix Infinite WebcamI bought this because it works with Vista 64-bit and have had zero problems and the picture quality is excellent. The sound quality of the microphone is very good. People on the other end of video calls are usually very impressed. One of the greatest things this camera has is auto-focus. Compared to a standard webcam with low resolution this is a welcome sight. There is a little blue light that comes on when the camera or microphone are in use, and yes you can use just the microphone without the camera for voice calls, etc. You can also turn the light off through the software if you want, which I think is great, even though this light is not bright enough to be distracting. The software has a couple cool, slightly gimmicky features. One of which is the auto-zoom where the camera crops a smaller area around your face and 'zooms' in on it. Of course quality goes down some because this is a digital zoom, not optical. You can turn it on or off, but it works quite well and knows to zoom out when there is no face close to the camera. You can also manually zoom between 1x and 3x to an area of your choosing. You can take pictures at up to 3200x2400, but they are usually grainy unless it's very bright. So still way better than VGA webcam pics. Also you can capture video at 30 fps at 640x480, 800x600 is only 20 fps. You can also use different decoder options so you can do DV 720x480 and even PAL.The pictures can be manual or with the timer, which the time is adjustable on. It can also do burst mode where it will take several pictures over a specified time. You can change both values up to 99 photos at 10 photos per second.Once you've saved your video or picture you can upload it to youtube, your blog, your ipod, your psp, or straight to your email program, or just copy it to another folder all from the same interface, with one click. kudosThe other gimmicky-sounding feature is the chat and share feature so that if you are using MSN or skype or whatever you use you can put videos and pictures that are on your computer up for the other person to see, and it happens instantaneously when you click on a picture so there is no loading, converting, etc. but you can also do slideshow mode. There is also a pointer feature I don't use much. It does work though and it is more interesting than a video of me sitting there so I can't say it is too gimmicky. The software has a low-light feature for when you are in low-light and it really helps a lot. The image is brightened up a lot and the focusing works as if it was not dim but there is more graininess in the image. It also has a backlight compensation feature that brightens up your face if you have a strong light coming from behind you that creates a silhouette. A nice touch.Bang for the buck is great on this camera, features are plentiful, and it's a lot cheaper than some more common models out there. Oh, also the little clip works fine on my LCD monitor. This would probably be too big for someone with a laptop.Overall it has well thought out software and quality audio and video and those make this one a win for me.
This review is from: Hercules Dualpix Infinite WebcamMy husband loves this. He is especially pleased with the quality of the pictures. It is easy to use, and seems robust- not that we are throwing it around or anything.
This review is from: Hercules Dualpix Infinite WebcamInstall was a breeze. Windows Vista/7 recognized it and installed basic driver. You can install more from the CD or the web site. I recommend to update the firmware to prevent aufocus "pumping" problem.
