Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000

Free, fast, and easy for you

It sets up when you set up the webcam.

You'll enjoy razor-sharp images

True-to-life widescreen video

Snapshots at up to 8 megapixels

This review is from: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000The title says it all. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit operating system running on an Intel i7 920 processor. Logitech's camera software will not install correctly. You can't get a picture at all. I spent over an hour on the phone with Logitech Support and also corresponded via emails. The net effect was no help. Their software gives Script Errors, Not Win32 application errors, and it thinks I am running an AMD 32 bit processor. Don't buy this product for use on an Intel Windows 7 machine. I does not work. I will work fine on the obsolete XP operating system that I no linger own. Aric

This review is from: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000That's true. This webcam does not work for Windows 7 64-Bit. Might be okay for older XP. Spent time with "support" at Logitech over the phone. They had no idea. Claimed I was running AMD. Nope, it's Intel dual core.

This review is from: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000I purchased my 9000pro a couple years ago and am still using it! The built in mic is sensative and picks up pretty well (about 3ft away) and has good picture quality. Some of the settings should be turned off, like rightlight (which helps brighten up a dark room) as it causes the camera to lag. With it off, I have no lag and a very clear picture. They include a lot of nifty filters for use with the webcam, like face distortions, or privacy screens, but they don't seem to work with web based applications like meebo, chat-roulette, imo.im, etc. They work fine in skype though. Install was easy, windows 7 just matched up the divers and I was good to go. Even install on xp was simple and straightforward. Highly reccommend ths camera.Other notes: another reviewer on here runs an intel setup, and stated s/he had issues thusly. I run an amd setup and have had no issues. May want to keep this in mind if you prefer intel to amd.

This review is from: Genius PF-A01 10.4-Inch 4:3 Format Digital Photo Frame (Oak)I bought this as a present, but soon found that I couldn't part with it and had to buy another. The first unit was dead on arrival, that is the only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating (but Amazon stepped forward and quickly replaced it). The pictures are brilliant. The resolution is excellent. The multi-mode is fascinating. The manual stinks, but an hour or so of playing with the remote supplies all of the answers. The unit does not seem to recognize folders on the memory card, but it does find the pictures in the folders. I have not figured out how to control the sequence of display but suspect it is related to the order that I wrote the pictures to the card. I could not get AVI to work in spite of many attempts with different creation packages. I found that using Outlook to email myself pictures was a quick way of converting attached photos to 640x480....

This review is from: Genius PF-A01 10.4-Inch 4:3 Format Digital Photo Frame (Oak)It is very easy to upload jpeg's to the frames internal memory. Just plug it into a USB port and it's recognized as a drive. Then you can just drag & drop your images from your hard drive or cd/dvd. The frame automatically sizes the images properly. The image quality is very good for a 640X480 frame. One benefit the frame has that many others don't is to set the the slide show duration from 5 sec up to 4 hours. Another feature is the sleep function which can be set up to 8 hours. The only 2 notable cons to this frame are that you can't turn it on/off with the remote, you have to reach behind the frame to a slide switch and the remote is the type with the bubble buttons rather than the push type buttons which I prefer....

This review is from: Genius PF-A01 10.4-Inch 4:3 Format Digital Photo Frame (Oak)I sent the Kodak 7" display back because it had a widescreen display that didn't fit most of my photo's and made the display seem even smaller. After seeing the difference in this display and the other, I would say don't even mess with a screen smaller than 10". Once you get the pictures on this it is awesome. I knocked the product because of poor documentation. I never did get the thing to read a memory stick from my sony camera. It was a snap to use my Mac to load everything from the USB connector supplied. The 128 MB is fine for my needs. Unit seems well built and is attractive....

This review is from: Sony DPF-D95 9-Inch LED Backlit Digital Photo Frame with Remote (Black)This is a nice, clean, simple frame with great picture and a multitude of settings. I have it set for slideshow with wipe, three-second interval. I also set up time and date to display unobtrusively in the lower left corner. It will play pix from different folders, depending on your mood or who is around. You can sort the display order several ways. You can shuffle. You can zoom. You can show one photo only, or only a clock, or only a calendar, or several photos at once, or -- you get the idea. The box contains exactly what it says: frame and remote that shows photos. The frame has 256MB of on-board memory. No movies or music. The remote is a nice touch and will probably cause me to play with settings because it's so simple to use. The box does not contain cables (other than the power source) or memory cards. The product description does not say it contains these things, but it does state clearly the types of compatible memory cards. Read the product description. (!) I previously had a 7-inch manually controlled Panasonic frame that burned out after 4-5 years. I hated to see it go, but this one is sooooo much nicer! I got mine for $100, with free shipping. That's a great price for this specific item, or for any brand-name frame of this size. I like it so much I will get one for my wife. Before she takes mine....

Shredder Lubricant

We only buy Fellowes shredders and have found them very reliable. I originally purchased the oil for the cutters directly from Fellowes a couple of years ago; the bottle was smaller and more expensive at the time. I was quite pleased to find this product available from Amazon at a good price and larger bottle.

I think a lot of people buy a shredder, not knowing that it does need some maintenance to keep it in top shape. Besides not overloading your shredder's capabilities or shredding material that you shouldn't, the next best thing you can do to protect your investment is to regularly lubricate the cutters. This reduces wear, noise, and can prevent the teeth from breaking.

Be sure to read the instructions for your particular shredder, however, about the type of oil to use and the frequency. You may be tempted to use other types of oil you already have around your house or WD-40 or something, but many of those things are flammable and will only serve to damage your shredder or worse.

As another reviewer said, be careful when cutting the tip on the bottle because if you make it too big, the oil will be harder to control. Fellowes Shredder Oil, 12 oz. Bottle with Extension Nozzle (35250)

This is a just a quick review to let you know about Fellowes (and other shredder branded oils) versus your standard kitchen vegetable oil.

Remember that vegetable oils go rancid quickly; they're meant for eating and not industrial lubrication on a regular basis. The use vegetable oil trick is actually intended for people who use their shredders OFTEN, not OCCASIONALLY. I have a giant bottle of canola oil at the office for the big shredder, I use the branded oil at home. The amount of shredding most offices do is enough to warrant using vegetable oil since more than likely by the end of of a typical maintenance cycle, the oil is long gone from the blades and feeding mechanism.

Do not use olive oil, corn oil, cottonseed, peanut, palm, or ANY vegetable oil with an odor. Unless you want your shredder smelling like food, stay away from any vegetable oil with a distinct odor. Canola oil is the best substitute for branded oil. Also look for lower grade canola cooking oil, the ones you often find in thrift stores or 99 cent stores. It should look more "watery" than viscous.

If you think Fellowes is taking you for a ride in selling shredder oil, think again. It's like someone mixing food coloring and water to make "ink" for their printer. Sure the price is way more than it should be, but that also doesn't make the home alternative absolutely correct all the time. Use the Fellowes oil if you shred papers ocasionally and pretty much find yourself oiling once in two weeks. One 12 ounce bottle should last you QUITE a long time. If you're in a heavy office or shredding daily, then go for the canola oil alternative. The last thing you want is to have sticky, smelly blades that have rancid vegetable oils on them.

Fellowes oil has no odor and is quite "watery". If I could buy this stuff cheap in the gallons, I would for all my shredders. Vegetable oils have the caveats I mentioned above, but they DO work if you're in a pinch or trying to save some money.

As a side note, always use shredder bags when possible. They save you from dealing with the "dust" that shredders create. And yes, you can use generic 4-11 gallon trash bags instead of "shredder" bags! That's ok.

I have a Staples 15-sheet shredder for which I purchased the Fellowes lubricant oil. After a single thorough application, the shredder gradually returned to its optimum performance. I used the generic office store brand oil before, and it seems that Fellowes lubricant delivers a difference you can hear.

I spoke with Fellowes, they say it's OK to use regular cooking vegetable oil (canola, etc.) in their machines, but only temporarily, not in the long run, because regular vegetable oil may become sticky and start smelling rancid. I'll stick with the dedicated oil and give it just 4 stars since there exists an alternative. I will, however, give Fellowes 5 stars for their candor. Also, as others have pointed out, be careful not to cut too big a chunk of the dispenser nozzle's tip, so you won't waste oil when oiling your machine.

This is the best priced shredder lubricant out there and it's from a shredder manufacturing company. Though there are other options to lubricate your shredder (such as lubricated paper), there is no substitute for the real thing. All you do is pour this directly onto your shredder and it will keep the blades from rusting and losing it's edge. Recommended for any shredder (not just confetti-cut as it is being advertised as)

My wife and I shred just about everything, but you only need a few drops each time you change the bag. If I am still alive when this bottle is empty, then I will consider myself lucky. Maybe we can put it in the will for our grandchildren someday.'

Computer Hardware - external hard drive, drive enclosures

The Sabrent EC-UEIS7 is much better than expected... especially, considering some of the reviews here. But if you do a little research, you'll find it does have more positive reviews. So, I took a chance and it paid off. Its utilitarian design suggests a sturdy, solid, well made case. I concur - there is nothing flimsy about this enclosure. It's matte black finish leaves no fingerprints. Dust and other markings are easily removed with a slightly damp cloth. The overall finish is very clean with smooth edges and everything fits together without gaps or warping. The black plastic stand holds the unit securely in an upright position. I leave the drive on for 12 hours, or more, every day, so any enclosure must include a built-in fan for cooling. I've used "fan less" enclosures before and my experience has been that both, the drive and the enclosure's electronics quickly get too hot and begin to fail.

Installation of the hard drive was easy enough even with the poorly translated "users manual" - if you pay attention to the photo's and don't rush. The drive slid into place quite easily. Yes, it is a snug fit but it was easy to position. With the two plastic side plates removed, the four supplied screws locked the drive into place. Re-assembly was simple enough and once connected to the computer via the supplied USB cable, Windows 7 immediately recognized the drive and it was up and running.

There are two LED lights on what I call the front end: a flashing red LED at top of the unit indicating when the drive is active (it's off when the drive is inactive); and a solid blue light at the bottom indicating the power is on. The power switch is easily accessible at the back of the case and its rocker design feels very solid, as are all the connectors. When on, the fan is very smooth and whisper quiet.

The Sabrent EC-UEIS7 enclosure has been in daily use for more than a week now and its performance has been consistent and without drive errors. It has deliberately been left on for the past 96 hours and I have seen no problems what-so-ever with either the enclosure's electronics or the hard drive due to over-heating. I am extremely pleased with this purchase and plan to purchase a second unit for a different drive. Of course, I can't speak to this enclosure's longevity because that has yet to be determined, but I am hopeful it will have a long life. That, plus the fact that I am using this only with an IDE Drive is why this review is four stars. I don't know how well it would work, if at all, with a sata drive - I've seen various reports that it does and doesnt work. If this unit was manufactured strictly for IDE to USB I would give this enclosure a full, and honest, five stars. I only wish all Sabrent branded items were this good. Unfortunately, that is not the case. And, yes, I would recommend this case to anyone looking to buy one. If, however, you're looking for something thin, stackable, and pocketable, then this is not for you.

It is now Feb 6, 2010 and I've had my second unit for about 2-3 weeks, with it running 24/7. Like the first order, above, it performs flawlessly. There a some differences between the two units, none which really make any difference to me: ie, the second unit has two blue LED lights that are constantly on to signify power connection, with the "top" light flashing red or "purple (red combined with blue)" to signify drive operation. The finish is slightly different from the first unit, and the second unit came with an external sata cable, something the first unit did not do. But as to basic operation, the two units perform perfectly! I expect I'll buy a third unit down the road for a third drive I have lying around! I really like the looks and functionality of this external housing! Sabrent eSATA to Serial ATA (SATA) and IDE(PATA) USB 2.0 3.5-Inch Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure Case with Cooling Fan

Bought two of these to salvage two 500gb IDE drives from a dead pc. Instructions are not very articulate, but drive installation is simple enough to figure out yourself. Very tight fit for 3.5in drives, but don't need to use force to get them inserted. Both powered up and worked as soon as connected through the USB ports.

Good packaging, comes with the screws and a screwdriver for top cover removal and mounting the drive to the side rails. Although not in the description, the package also includes eSata cables and internal connector. Took about a week to get them with free shipping.

One clarification not in the product description: I learned from another site that the eSata connection only works with eSata drives; apparently, you must use the USB connection for IDE drives.

I also bought Sabrent external enclosures for two DVD drives and I'm pleased with both purchases. I'd buy them again.

I purchased this enclosure for use with a Media Center PC. I have run out of USB 2.0 interfaces, and wanted the speeds provided by my computer's eSATA interface. Since it did not ship with an eSATA cable, I set it up using USB. When I subsequently plugged it in to eSATA, the lights on the enclosure went dead, and the PC did not see the drive. When I wrote to Sabrent tech support, I received a most unusual response. They did not suggest any way to make the eSATA interface work. The technician suggested that I use USB rather than eSATA because the enclosure throttles down the eSATA speed to the same rate as USB anyway. Further, he suggested that eSATA was a dying standard - soon to be replaced by USB 3.0. In other words, if I was going to use an obsolete slow interface, it may as well be USB 2.0! I returned the product. - Usb - External Hard Drive - Drive Enclosures - Hdd Enclosure'

The understated black color and contemporary oval design fit in well with any kitchen décor, while the small size (just 6 inches high) doesn't take up too much premium counter space. Stainless-steel blades guarantee a long life and an even grind, whether you use this grinder for coffee, spices, nuts, or even whole grains. --Jill Lightner

This review is from: Krups 20342 Electric Coffee and Spice grinder with stainless steel blades, BlackI have had my grinder for 12 years now. It works the same today as it did new, and I use it about 10 times a week. For the money, it can't be beat. That said, this grinder is not for everybody. This grinder is perfect for anybody with a coffee maker that uses #4 paper CONE filters (or slightly bigger or smaller). I emphasize PAPER because a permanent filter is not good for this grinder. Like any blade grinder, it will produce some dust. That creeps through the permafilter and into your pot is makes sludge. It sloppies up your coffee. Nothing gets through paper filters though. It also grinds coffee fine. You really don't have a choice. It is ok for espresso as well if you are not a connoisseur. If you try a coarse grind with this unit, you will be out of luck. If you don't grind long enough, you will leave a few beans whole or in large pieces. If you need anything other than a fine grind and don't mind using paper filters (I prefer them), then look no further.I deducted a star because it has limitations, but the truth is, for probably 80% of the coffee drinkers out there, this grinder is all you need....

This review is from: Krups 20342 Electric Coffee and Spice grinder with stainless steel blades, BlackThis is my first review for a kitchen product, but my trusty Krups Coffee Grinder deserves two thumbs up. I have used it to grind coffee to perfection: I have both drip and press coffee makers and I can use this to make different sized grounds for each. It also works well to grind nuts and to turn toast into breadcrumbs -- I have used it for both purposes. It is extremely easy to use.The only downsides to this grinder (which is why it loses a star) are (1) the base cannot be put in water, it needs to be wiped out; and (2) it lacks some of the "bells and whistles" of newer models. Nonetheless, I have owned my grinder for about 15 years and have been pleased with it since the day I bought it. It is nearly indestructible and will probably outlive me....

This review is from: Krups 20342 Electric Coffee and Spice grinder with stainless steel blades, BlackI (OK, we -- my wife loves coffee even more than I) have been using this grinder for more than 7 years now. At least a pot a day, year in and year out. No problems with blowing up, or any of the other problems mentioned. If you're unfortunate enough to get one that doesn't do what the vast majority of reviewers have said it will - grind beans for years and years - I hope you'll assume you got a (rare, it seems) bad copy, and try another one before giving up.As for the coffee, this little [U.S. currency with Andrew Jackson's portrait] gadget grinds from coarse to espresso, and all you have to do is a "one-mississippi, two-mississippi" until you get it down which mississippi gives you the coffee you want. Yes, blades will heat up the beans, but keeping the beans in the freezer mitigates that, and that's where you really oughta keep 'em anyway, for freshness' sake. As for coffee dust on the sides, I only get that anymore when I come home with a brand new can of Sumatra Lintong from Trader Joe's, and just won't wait for the beans to cool down! Otherwise, cold beans = no caked-on dust. As for getting grounds all over the counter, here's a little trick: when you're done grinding, turn it over (lid still on, please!) and give the whole thing a tap or two on the countertop. Bingo - lid now full of grounds, ready to carry to your coffee maker. (Speaking of... based in no small part on reviews here, we're getting a Braun KF187, and I can't wait to see if it really makes coffee as well as everyone raves. But I digress...)We also bought a second one of these for spices, and recently even used it to bail us out of a no-confectioner's-sugar bind. Threw in some raw turbinado sugar, crossed fingers, gave it a whirl, and pressed on, MacGyver style...To sum up, it's been a great little tool that has cost us less than a penny a day if you amortize the cost over 7+ years. I'll take it, and if it "blows up" tomorrow, I'll go...

Super LoiLoScope is third-party software that offers a bundle of video editing functions for creating videos, adding text, images, music, and special effects to videos, burning DVDs of your videos, etc. This was the only part of the camera package that I did not try out since I already use other software to edit my videos with.Although I am a serious amateur photographer with 3 Canon dSLR cameras and 7 nice Canon lenses, I can appreciate the amount of features that are packed into this very affordable camera. The S3 comes in five color options: black, white, blue, red, purple. This camera is aimed at value-for-money simplicity, specifically designed to be easy to use by beginning photographers. While the photos that you take using this camera will not always be perfect, they tend to be quite idiot-proof, which makes this camera an excellent choice for a first-time photographer or as a camera for a teenager. Someone who is college-age or older may potentially become very interested in digital photography and then outgrow this camera and want something better. But for a teenager, or for someone looking for a good basic and very affordable point-and-shoot camera, this is a pretty good choice. Some of the DMC-S3's noteworthy features are described and rated below.***** Excellent 5-fuzzies feature ratings:***** There is an excellent set of features packaged in a very easy-to-use camera. The ergonomics of the controls and the on-screen menus are excellent and seem to be aimed at first-time digital photography novices.***** 720P (1280x720) at 30fps HD video recording in a $120 camera is currently quite rare! If you look at all of the competing point-and-shoot cameras in this price range (or even out to $150), nearly all of the video capabilities of cameras by Nikon, Canon, Olympus, and other only go up to 640x480 at 30fps. It is not until you get closer to the $200 camera pricing that 720P is currently being offered for most camera brands (Amazon currently sells a Kodak 14MP with 720P or a Sony 16MP with 720P, both for $160)... and then at the $200 price point, Panasonic offers 1080P HD video in its Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Black). So it is currently very rare to get 720P video capability in a camera of this price range.***** The "Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) Shake Detection" works very well. This is a good thing since this camera is so slim in style and slippery in feel that your hands may move the camera during the focusing process more than cameras whose bodies are molded with more edges to grip onto. On the right side of the top of the camera, where the shutter button is, that top right corner has a grooved indentation where your right index finger rests. I really wished that this camera also had a similar grooved indentation on the top left corner of the body so that my left index finger could get a better grip on the camera when holding it steady for either photos or video. The camera is housed in a plastic casing that can give it a toy-like feel, but its construction feels quite solid so I expect its exterior to have good long-term durability.***** The camera offers four flexible 'Recording Modes', three Recording Modes for photography and the fourth mode being the "Motion Picture" video mode. The "Scene Mode" covers an above-average number of shooting situations, with 16 scenes that you can select from: Portrait, Soft Skin, S...

Laptop To Tv - pc to tv, pc vga to tv converter

I bought this so I could play streaming Netflix movies through my laptop on my LCD TV. Device worked perfectly right out of the box. Here are the connection steps: 1. Connect laptop "VGA out" to device "VGA in" using included cable. 2. Connect device's power cable to USB port of laptop. 3. Connect device to LCD TV using included S-Video cable. 4. Turn on TV and laptop. 5. Use TV remote to select appropriate S-Video input port. 6. Set laptop to send video out through VGA. I had it working in about 10 minutes, playing a streaming Netflix movie through my laptop onto the TV. Picture quality was better than I expected, almost as good as the picture from the cable box. Device comes with a composite video cable also, so you have a choice of either S-Video or composite video (yellow RCA plug) connection to your TV. Overall, I'm very happy with ease of setup and picture quality. (My setup: Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop with Vista, and Westinghouse 26" LCD TV, connected via this converter.) INTRODUCTION:

Heads-up: Most people aren't fully knowledgeable of this particular avenue of technology, meaning that contrary to what you might hope or have been told, you can't down-vert VGA to a TV resolution without quality loss. Most of the reviews which scathe this product and others, saying the quality sucks, might be true but they're not recognizing the fact it's a limitation of the technology--not the device. Don't review a device poorly for something it cannot do.

First thing to know is, when converting any video signal into a different format, it most likely will not be perfect. When downgrading from VGA to Composite (RGB), it's even worse. You need to know this up front and expect it. Unless you buy specific hardware (for much more), or have specific software which helps down-vert the graphics, it's going to lose sharpness and sometimes clarity, and at worse the image might appear "shifty". Even the special hardware and software won't make it perfect, it merley softens edges for the most part. TV quality composite wasn't designed for the resolution capability of VGA, or even today's higher-end video output formats.

Your needs and application may vary. For simple things like watching videos or playing games (which use mostly graphics and large fonts, not small text), and certain presentation applications, this will be perfect. This will not be good if you need to browse the web and still think you'll be able to easily read small text with clarity.

PROS:

* Price for the features you get - awesome. It works as described, includes everything you need to get going. You shouldn't spend more than this

* Includes everything you need

* Intuitive/easy to use out of the box, < 2 minute setup time

* Great quality video as expected (read 'introduction' and 'my application' and 'video quality' for more details)

* Excellent for DVD playback/video/games/presentation/GUI interfaces

CONS:

* The sharp/crisp/high-quality stuff you see on a normal computer screen will not be here--because it's not possible to down-vert VGA to Composite without losing the quality. This is not a flaw of the device, it's merely the technology.

* Not good for browsing sites which use lots of text, reading documents, things of that nature--again, this is not the device, it's a limitation of the technology itself

MY APPLICATION:

I needed this to convert a low-resolution VGA output (640x480 or 800x600) into a Composite feed which could be seen on a 6.5" or 7" LCD with average quality. What this means is, small fonts like 10pt, 12pt, etc, were not expected (or needed), as it was a GUI-driven touch-screen interface using mostly graphics and large fonts. For this purpose, the output was perfect for my needs.

I had everything

VIDEO/PICTURE QUALITY:

4 out of 5. (please read the introduction to see more about video quality)

The quality is exactly what I expected, so the rating is high. If you expect this to look as sharp as a projector, you're looking at the wrong item--get a projector. On a medium-sized screen (relative to what I'm used to), 37-45", most normal text (10-14pt font, unbolded) looks grainy. 12+ size font bolded looks decent. Graphics, ones which aren't intricate and which lack detail, look great. Anything with lots of detail is going to look off. Imagine trying to play one of today's high-end games, but through the graphics ability of a 20 year old gaming system. It simply won't look right.

But if you're going for simple or large graphics, pictures, video, flash games, solitaire, web-browsing using large fonts and low-resolution, presentations, gui-interfaces, car-computers, and other stuff along those lines, you get the drift. This is perfect for playing a DVD on a computer and porting it to your TV. It's not great for trying to read a Word document with small font at a high resolution.

Something to note is the high resolution input it can take, very awesome. Something to be aware of, however, is that these high resolutions don't look great on all TV screens. You'll have to try some out to see what works best for your application. I accidentally put 1600x1200 through it and it rendered even though it said it wouldn't.

PRODUCT QUALITY:

5 out ot 5. It's compact, the device is sturdy, all the ports are firm, nothing is loose when you plug it in.

INSTRUCTIONS:

3 out of 5. The instructions were adequate but lack a lot of detail. Not that you need a lot of detail, but for some it may be helpful. I merely plugged it up and started toying with it. I didn't read the instructions until I wanted to see an explanation of all the menu items. The menu layout is very low-tech but functional, reminds me of first generation VCR's.

INCLUDED CABLES:

5 out of 5. They give you everything you need to get started, including a short composite cable.

NOTES:

* As with lots of electrical devices, I suggest having all your connections made prior to applying power. So if your computer/tv are already on, connect the VGA and composite cables up first, then plug your USB cable in to provide power. Or, better yet, have everything turned off first, plug everything up, then turn on your equipment.

* Other units which look alike and advertise they do the same, may be able to do the same, but many of the ones I reviewed on Amazon and elsewhere all had the same series of bad reviews--mostly hardware failures and defects. This model appears to have good reviews across all the websites. Pay the extra $15 for it.

* An $80 unit won't do more quality-wise than this unit will; at best it will have a better menu system, and maybe more overall features, but the quality will be the same. Unless you break the $100+ mark and get a unit which advertises boosted video signal and special firmware/software to help make fonts/edges/contrast look better, it's not worth the extra money.

* What you expect in quality of picture versus what you get, will differ compared to someone else's expectations.

* You may see a split-second flicker of the RGB bars when everything powers up the first time, but immediately following should be your VGA. This is normal, RGB bars indicate there's a composite signal but there's no video or picture to render. If the RGB bars stay "on" with your computer connected, make sure you are using the right input resolution (I suggest dropping to 640x480 and then move up from there). If the RGB bars are always "on" and your computer isn't connected, this might indicate a problem with the unit or it might be "normal" depending on how your TV renders composite signals (some will display RGB bars to let you know it has a composite connection but no input).

* Menu layout is "simple" and low-tech, but it does provide you with the features you need to make sure the image fits on screen just right.

* I didn't check to see if it loses its settings (which you can change through the menu) after power-off because it doesn't affect my use of the product.

* Some systems, usually laptops, may not immediately render the video to the screen. Try making sure your composite cable is hooked up to the TV, your VGA cable is hooked up to the laptop, and then turning the laptop on. Also try it the other way around, have the laptop on and then connect everything. Also try powering the device after the connections are made, or before, whichever works. This is due to how some electrical signals "latch" in varying computers (usually laptops with the selectable VGA/LCD options). Never had the issue with a desktop or dedicated VGA-out.

* Something to note is the high resolution input it can take, very awesome. Something to be aware of, however, is that these high resolutions don't look great on all TV screens. You'll have to try some out to see what works best for your application. I accidentally put 1600x1200 through it and it rendered even though it said it wouldn't. - Laptop Or Pc To Tv - Pc Vga To Tv Converter - Pc To Tv - Laptop To Tv'
