The main screw upon which the clamp pivots was nearly impossible to turn on my copy. As a result, the knife does not clamp well. The thumbscrew clamp also is hard to turn. The angles are unmarked and the actual angle depends on how far out the knife blade sticks from the clamp. The clamp is not deep, so for large knives it is hard to position the blade consistently. Overall, I was pretty disappointed....

Instead of the usual jumble of parts & pieces, in a useless blister pac, it come in a very useful, Practicle roll up case.Then the disapointment started.The "Special Schrade Oil" Bottle was empty. Looks like there never was any oil in the bottle.The KIT totally lacked any instructions as to how to use the sharpener. There was a paper on how to assemble it, just not how to use it! I went to the schrade web site and found a video about it.I spent over an hour trying to sharpen my Schrade Lockback knife.The Clamp is very poor design and very poorly contructed.the Clamp will not adjust, because the adjusting screws are stripped out at the factory! Forget using this on very big knives, it just will not hold a knife bigger than 3-4 inches.Schrade should take this OFF the market and take their name OFF the product!I sent this KIT back and got a refund....
This review is from: Schrade SCKIT2 Advant-Edge Knife Sharpening SystemWhile it can be a valuable addition to your sharpening tool collection, you should know going in that it's not really a knife sharpening system. That is, unless your knives are only sharpened on one side. The Schrade Advant Edge knife sharpening system is a strange hybrid, a cross between a Lansky style clamp system and the Edge Pro sharpening system. The problem is that unlike a Lansky system, you can't turn the knife over to alternate sharpening strokes from each side. It's not like an Edge Pro either, in that the blade can't be moved to keep the blade in the correct position.Naturally, you can open the clamp to turn the knife over, but since you'll never be able to reposition it precisely enough, you lose most of the advantage of using a sharpening system.What it IS good for, is truing up the edge grind on a knife. The Schrade system allows for precise edge shaping on one side at a time, and works better than most sharpeners on small or narrow blades. It's just that after doing the preliminary work on the Schrade, you'll be better off if you have another sharpener to use to actually put an edge on the kn...
