With 1500 watts of power and a concealed heating element, this electric kettle quickly boils up to 7 cups of water, producing hot water for tea, hot chocolate, instant soup, and more--in half the time of a microwave oven. The kettle lifts off its 360-degree swivel power base for cordless pouring, can be set on the power base in any direction, and provides an easy on/off switch under the ergonomically designed handle. For safety, it features automatic shut-off with boil-dry protection to prevent it from operating without water, and to ensure the water doesn't boil away during operation, the unit shuts off automatically once the water reaches a full boil. Side and top water-gauge windows, along with a water-level indicator in ounces and liters, make it possible to see at a glance the amount of water remaining in the kettle. Other highlights include a push-button lid for convenient filling at the sink, a blue LED "on" interior light, cord storage underneath, and a removable and washable mesh filter that extends the life of the kettle and ensures better-tasting beverages. A bilingual instruction manual comes included. Housed in beautiful stainless steel, the electric kettle measures 9-1/5 by 6-4/5 by 10-1/5 inches.

This review is from: Sanyo U-K170S 1-3/4-Quart Stainless-Steel Electric KettleWe loved the look of this kettle and liked the easy-to-read water gauge. Its power is 1500 Watts, which is higher than many comparable kettles. This is a big advantage, as it means that it comes to the boil more quickly. (It's well worth checking the power of kettles before buying them. Some are painfully slow!)For us, though, there was, unfortunately, one problem. We use our kettle for all sorts of purposes, but mainly for making traditional British tea and we found that after a day or so, the tea tasted odd. My adult son was the first to point it out. I didn't want to believe it, as I loved the kettle. But in the end I was unable to deny it any longer. The tea definitely didn't taste right, even to me. I did some searching online and found other comments about a "metallic" taste and suggestions for eliminating it. e.g. Boil up lemon juice in the water, and so on. I did try that and it did diminish the scale that had already started to build up. But for us, it still didn't solve the taste problem. I don't know whether the scale was what caused it. If so, the kettle might work well for those who live in soft water areas, or who use water filters. It might also be fine for you if you aren't a tea drinker, or fussy about the taste of your tea. I hate to write anything negative in a review, but feel I owe it to fellow tea-drinkers to point out this problem! We have kept the kettle, because it's still useful and fast at boiling water for other purposes. But we no longer use it for tea-making. Sorry....

This review is from: Sanyo U-K170S 1-3/4-Quart Stainless-Steel Electric KettleThe Sanyo Electric Kettle is loud once it gets going but it does the job well. To be fair, it is obviously not the kettle itself, but the water that makes the noise. The steel design seems to make the boiling experience quite a bit louder than other non-steel models I have seen. I have it on my desk at work, and we have joked that it sounds like a jet engine getting ready to take off. That being said, I am very happy with it, and compared to some other models, it does have nice visual appeal (sort of the trade for loudness)....

This review is from: Sanyo U-K170S 1-3/4-Quart Stainless-Steel Electric KettleI recieved the Sanyo U-K170S and was surprisied as I thought I had ordered the white model. My first choice was the white plastic exterior because I felt it wouldn't be as hot to touch after boil. I was right, the stainless steel exterior is hot. That said, if you had taken the pot off the stove you wouldn't put your hand on it. An easy adaptation. The appliance performs well, boils water quickly enough, has a large capacity, and handles fairly easily. The handle stays cool, and the top opens with a little pressure for filling. I did have an occasion to refill the pot right after use and the top didn't open as easily, but did open.I've had the kettle for 3 months in daily use and have no complaints. I did quite a lot of research on Amazon looking at the variety of cordless electric kettles offered, and this had the most positive comments and the least important negatives. You would be hard pressed to find a kettle that works as well in this price range. Even some of the over $100 kettles had negative comments. The blue, light on indicator, inside the pot is p...
